Namaste Linda and all: On page 25 of the Hanuman puja, the word

SANKALPA is on the middle of the page. Page 26 gives us the

translation of the verses. Each and every puja has exactly the same

set of SANKALPA mantras. It is an intrinsic part of each and every

puja, homa, and worship experience. Each puja is arranged the same way.

First we invite the Gods and Goddesses, then we offer light and

incense to them, then the Gayatri mantra is chanted, then we worship

our mala, then we invite additional Gods and Goddesses, then we purify

our mouths and with blessed water, then we ask for Divine Eyes, then

we establish the Seat of Mother under the base of our spine, then we

purify the seat and connect to Mother Earth, and then we salute and

bow to our lineage of Masters, then we establish the mantra of the

Deity we are worshiping all around our body, by snapping our fingers

to the 10 directions.

Then we recite the sankalpa, establishing where we are, our lineage,

and who we are worshiping. Then we invoke Shiva, Mother Divine, and

Ganesh-asking them to help us achieve the highest goal of worship.

Then we ask for peace for every level of reality, for every being.

Once we have completed this introduction, we begin the worship of

Ganesh. We ask Him to remove all obstacles from our path.

Now we are ready to worship the Diety of our choice.

Every puja has the same introductory mantras. Thus, once we master

those mantras, learning the specific mantras to worhsip Shiva, or

Durga, or Lakshmi, etc., is much easier for us.

We see the beauty and practical application of this system of worship

and marvel at its practicality.

We thank the lineage of Masters who have passed this system from

Master to disciple for thousands of years. Because they have kept the

purity of the system, it is imbibed with Their shakti and wisdom.

Thus, we are able to perform worhsip in the same way that these great

Masters have performed it, generation after generation. And, they

assure us that we will obtain the same results as they have.

We just need to be regular in our practice, and have faith in Them.

Thanks Maa and Swami for giving us the tools to join you in the

highest form of devotion: bowing with reverence to the feet of the Lord.

Jai Ma Jai Swami

When I chant these verses, I always add my own comments / requests of

whatever Deity I am worshiping, at the end of the sankalpa verses.

For example: I always pray that my Gurus be cared for, and that I

obtain pure devotion, and increase of sincerity, and I ask for world

peace for every being in the 3 worlds.

Each of us has our own relationship with God, and our own reasons for

performing worship, so I offer my prayers only as an example, as one

possibility.
