Dear Vish

One question. My parents used to tell me that when your biological parents are alive, one does not read pitru mantras. They said pitrus means those who have passed into ether and so long as they are there I do not chant pitru mantras. Pitrus bless if I respect parents.

Can the pitru mantras still be chanted ? Dear Swamiji, what do you have to say to the above?

Is it necessary to offer pindas (rice balls) to our ancestors? What

if our ancestors were not Hindus. Would that not offend my parents

if they were staunch Christians? I am in uncertainty about this.

Also, if those who have gone before us are in the presence of Brahman

or " in heaven " is it necessary to offer them worship for

satisfaction? And, is it required for those who are renounced (taken

vows of sanyasa) to celbrate this ritual? They have broken their

ties with family and home, so I would think that they would no longer

have ancestors to bless?

Respectfully submitted with salutations to Swamaji and Shree Maa,

Kumari

Namaste Karen,

The Ancestral worship appears at the bottome of page 327 and goes

through to the top of page 330. It is called 'Tarpana " . We are usually

invited through this forum to submit names for the Mahaloya (worship of

the ancestors).

Hope this helps.
