How to chant the Chandi

Namaste all: The Words of Wisdom which Maadevi posted below were

stated by Swami this past Sunday in the middle of the group Chandi at

the homa in the Temple. He noticed that a devotee was not staying

focused on chanting.

But, His message was applicable to everyone in the Temple. Each of us

slips in and out of Chandi consciousness as we chant with Maa and

Swami. So, when Swami said this, I observed every devotee shift in

their asan, sit up straighter, and focus more intently on the text.

Whether we sit with the group or chant alone, our goal is to become

one with Chandi.

So, whenever we drift off onto a thought, we bring ourselves back to

conscious chanting. How many times we drift, does not matter. Each

time we realize we are off on a thought, come back to the Chandi.

I pray at the start of the Chandi, and at the end of every chapter, to

stay focused and attentive to Her. Ultimately, it is only Her Grace

which keeps us focused.

Here is Swami's statement:

" Each time a thought slips in, self-conceit is stealing a portion of

> your sacrifice. If you are not thinking of Chandi 100% of the time then

> self-conceit is stealing your sacrifice. " -

> Swami Satyananda Saraswati

Dear Vish,

Indeed Swamiji's words were for all of us, i did not know his reason but it did cause me to correct the posture and as i was reading your beautiful explanation two verses of the Guru Gita comes to mind and i would like to share one of them - vs 21: "Not contemplating anything other than Me, makes attainment of the highest status easy. Therefore, all efforts should be made to please the Guru"

The Guru is respected as the Supreme Divinity with form and if we are paying full attention to Her 'as a loving woman dreams of her husband' we are so overcome with devotion that the only thought is becoming one with the Supreme.

Thanks Vish.

Jai Maa Jai Swami
