Guest guest
Dear Linda, Tratak is the practice of sitting in a meditation posture and gazing at an object. We gaze without blinking our eyes. When the eyes start to cry, we pause and start all over again. After some time, we close our eyes and try to visualize the form in our mind. If it is not clear we open our eyes and start again. Different objects are prescribed by different Gurus. Candle with still fame, picture of Guru or Deity, ocean, Moon, etc. How long we should sit, how far away the object should be place, etc. can be found by consulting a Yogi or Guru. Physiologically, the optic nerve is benefited improving the power of concentration. At a subtle level, we increase our will power and importantly taken the qualities of the image we are staring at. Shree Maa once said that staring at a candle in a dark room is very good for improving memory. Here's more: According to the 'Hatha Yoga Pradipika' of Swatmarama, " Trataka eradicates all eye diseases, fatigue and sloth and closes the doorway creating these problems. It should carefully be kept secret like a golden casket. " Trataka benefits not only the eyes but a whole range of physiological and mental functions. It is therapeutic in depression, insomnia allergy, anxiety, postural problems, poor concentration and memory. Physiologically, trataka relieves eye ailments such as eye strain and headache, myopia, astigmatism and even early stages of cataract. The eyes become clear bright, able to see the reality beyond appearances. Love srini , nierika wrote: > > Dear srini ~ what is tratak? Guest guest
Dear srini ~ I can't tell you how much it means that you shared all this knowledge about Tratak with me ... not just the mere definition, but how to do it, and the benefits. I make a sankalpa to start doing this as part of my sadhana. I was aware of the practice of gazing at the flame, but never knew why, and I'm glad that Tratak includes gazing at a picture of a God/dess, a Saint, etc. I don't usually re-post all of the original post, but I'm doing it this time in case anyone missed the previous digest.
