Thank you for joining in the sankalpa.Actually today (Oct 4th 2008) is also the 5th day of our sankalpa. "Huh, explain yourself Nanda", you say... And I am happy to explain ..The way the lunar calendar works (and I strongly encourage you to review http://www.shreemaa.org/drupal/taxonomy_menu/58/158 , and click on "How to use a Panchang" when you get a chance) , a lunar day may sometimes span two solar days. And thats what has happened this Navaratri. So while yesterday (3rd Oct) was the 5th day of Navaratri, today (4th Oct) is ALSO the 5th day of Navaratri. It is day 6 of our sankalpa, but day 5 of Navaratri, and so we still have 4 more lunar days to go.... Which is good news, as we have more time to finish our sankalpa. We are keeping a good pace, and have completed 653 repetitions as a group. Thanks to everyone's spirited attempts, no doubt we will complete the 355 required to complete our sankalpa, and more...A little side story ... When Swamiji completed the 1000 days of the Chandi Sankalpa this year, he kept going and considered it formally closed atleast 2 months after the actual closure. So I asked him, didnt the extra days count towards the sankalpa ? He said, and I paraphrase , "No, the extra days chanted are Dakshina, or offering , to the Goddess"...So folks, if and we cross our 1008 number, and with Her grace we will, anything over and beyond we chant as a group in the 9 days (er 10 bcos of the lunar calendar) is the EXTRA that we give Her as our combined Dakshina.
