Dear Donna ~ welcome and so nice to "meet" you. You will find that the Devi Mandir Family is so wonderful, warm, caring, helpful ... and more. Yes, a mala is 108 times. Also, in case you are not aware, you can purchase a mala, which is a strand of 108 beads, with one extra bead, at the end, the "Guru Bead." If you put it over your head it would seem like a medium length necklace. Many people do wear their malas, and sometimes you may be able to get your guru to bless your mala. It makes doing the chanting of whatever the 108 is much easier. There is also a way that people who are with Maa and Swamiji frequently, know, and that it to count the mala on your fingers. I'm not sure how that is done, but I came up with my own way, so I can do a mala where ever I am, as vish says, even while riding in the car. Again, nice to meet you.

Jai Maa , Jai Swamiji
