Guest guest
Dear wiggins ~ recently, in the digest, someone brought forth the idea that certain mantras could only be used if initiated. Then someone wrote back about how many mantras, in the various sacred texts for recitation and/or puja, Swamiji has provided by translating these ancient texts for modern times. I have read many times in this digest that one does not need initiation in order to begin worship. So, you will get lots of responses to this I'm sure, but I'll just name a few ways to begin: continue participating in the digest; participate in the weekly prayer club; participate in the annual sankalpa (we will be getting more info for 2009, yes?), go to the website and "sit in on" Swamiji's classes. There are classes to go with many of the texts that Swamiji has translated. After listening in on a few, feel which of these you are moved by. You can then get the appropriate text and begin doing puja. I am in first grade (my designation, but based on Swamiji's teachings) in the Devi Mandir school, so I am still learning. I have made it a sankalpa for the new year to get to know the "Durga Puja Beginner," perhaps to even memorize. And for many, if not all of the texts/pujas, there are accompanying cds. You can also "sit in" on the aarti at the Devi Mandir at 6 pm PST, weekly, or on Sunday at 12 noon PST (if I've gotten this wrong, someone please correct me). Anyway, what I am saying is that Swamiji has empowered us with all the "tools" he has provided, and the best way to start is to just jump in ... don't wait for formal initiation. This is directly from Swamiji. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Thank you so much for your kind words and advice I really appreciate it. I will make a schedule and set some goals ( like your new years sankalpa) to help me further progress. , nierika wrote: > > Dear wiggins ~ recently, in the digest, someone brought forth the idea that > certain mantras could only be used if initiated.
