Guest guest
Namaste all family: Here is a question from Swami for everyone to discuss: " If it is so important to maintain our spiritual inspiration, why do we find so many distractions that give precedence to satsang? Guest guest
Namaste Swamiji and all, thank you for asking the question. Here's my two cents: perhaps these distractions serve as the necessary resistance in order to train our devotional muscles; without the experience of distractions and the struggle to maintain our inspiration, how would we get to know the meaning of sincere devotion? It is said that our Divine Mother prepares for every devotee the dish he or she likes most; I get the feeling that by means of the game of distractions Mother is cooking the devotees to Her own liking. Without resistance, no friction, without friction, no heat, without heat, the dish will not become cooked and ready for eating. Our giving in to distractions is our attempt to stay out of the pot, and the pattern of going away and coming back is Mother stirring Her meal. with love, Henny , " inspectionconnection108 " <inspectionconnection108 wrote: > > Namaste all family: > > Here is a question from Swami for everyone to discuss: > > " If it is so important to maintain our spiritual inspiration, why do > we find so many distractions that give precedence to satsang? > > Jai Ma Jai Swami > > vishweshwar >
Guest guest
If God didn't give us so many beautiful, loving things to play with, for what would we give God thanks...? Thank you, God for all these nifty toys and Your wonderous, infinite splendor that allows me to think of You. Guest guest
Pranaam Swamiji, and thank you for your question. I think it is because " Baladakrsya mohaya mahamaya prayacchati. " She thrusts us with great force into the ignorance of egotistic attachment. And what power do I have before Her? For brief periods of time I surface - all distractions seem to loose their hold on me – and then again I go under. It is a constant struggle. When in her infinite grace she will open the door of the cage and let me out I will fly free. Now I can only pray and wait. Guest guest
There is a story that is one of my favorites that is related to what you have said, Papia. My version may be a bit different then other versions, but it is basically the same story. At the beginning of creation, Divine Mother in the form of Saraswati and Mahadeva in the form of Brahma had begun to create humans. Their first creations were too spiritual and immediately fell into meditation, found their unity with the Supreme Divinity and were united with Brahman. Saraswati and Brahma talked to each other and realized that they had to find a way to keep that from happening, so the Lila of creation could go on. After discussion, They meditated and the answer came to them. They created great distractions and attachments that would bind the creatures to the planet Earth. They created love and loyalty, lust and greed and egotism and many other attachments. Now when they set their creatures upon the Earth, they remained. And when they managed to break their bonds, there was such a feeling of freedom and joy and if possible they enjoyed the presence of the Supreme Divinity even more because of the struggle to attain that unity. Now the Divine Pair rejoiced that They had fufilled their holy purpose and could now play with their creatures in the Lila of creation. Om Jai Kali Ma! Guest guest
The outer reflects the inner. Distractions or karmas have and will always exist, they dance around saying " look at me " . The volume with which they distract or the time and space they take up reflect our inner state. As we move inward, toward more silence, the distractions diminish in volume and relative importance in our lives. Eventually, even the inspiring satsang with other seekers will be a distraction from the more elemental satsang with the inner Guru. But until then, it is a help along the way.
