Guest guest
First let me thank you for this enlightening question. Had to take some time w/ this to observe. What was found were many lessons.Distractions are excuses:Ex: My husband went out of town on orientation for new job."I" THOUGHT OOOOO no distractions, no responsibilities, know one but "ME" Now "I" can get something done. Practice, Sadhana, Krya, etc."MY" own little retreat. Never mind that Mother was setting me up for a great lesson. Nothing changed. "I" did as always. Fresh, NEW, excuses rose for the occasion.Lesson: Distractions=Excuses, Maya, unreal They were all excuses the "I" used to do just what "I" wanted to do.Well, Well, Well !Now that is clear. All that has to be done when thoughts come to distract is just say EXCUSES, Bye! Old friend just leaves and in comes the new one, LOVE, BLISS, JOY,DEVOTION, what ever you choose to call it the joy is back in just a flash without even having to skip a word of the text.Thank you Mother for showing the old self a new way of seeing things. Now as for outside distractions. Well they're just funny. Each one with it's own set of excuses and temptations. But usually all brought own by the self as well. The chickens are screaming, the dog needs to potty, the cat is clawing the carpet, there's a fox out side. The hubby comes in. The son comes home. Once they were seen for what they werethey happened less and less. Telling the self that they were just Mothers Dance, to just enjoy the music and continue helped. It also helped when MOTHER reminded that if this was done early before light these wouldn't even be an issue. Mother has to dance when the sun rises. You're suppose to be waking Her up not getting kicked in the head as She dances on it to prove a point. Having a since of humor helps too. Not taking it all so seriously and giving the self a break makes it easier to call it back to attention.Pat it on the back and start again. When finding the self reading the text to fast (rushing), simply by starting to read slowly syllable by syllable, concentration on the text fulling comes. Reading the english helps to renew interest. It always shows something on a diff. level and wow you're on the ride of your life doing the puja with joy and fervor. Now at one time the self was caught in an interesting game of looking for excuses as to why the text had to be rushed through and that was interesting. To hear the excuses the mind was coming up with and to feel it searching desperately for an excuse was funny. Simply a laugh at the self brings back the love.Think that's SELF realization. How funny we are. This has been a very fun way to understand what the self is up too.THANK YOUVish wrote: ....I have a very similar experienceseas you regarding "getting to work" on my sadhana. Even when I wasliving at the Mandir while Maa and Swami were in India for 30 days, Ihad trouble some mornings sitting down to worship. Always something"important" would arise, and my "monkey" mind would get excited andrun after that thought, feeling, mood, etc. Just like dangling a set of keys in front of a crying baby to distractit, my mind will go to the next flashy impulse rather than to worship. So, how to stop running after mirages? This is a different experiencethan boredom during worship. This is putting other distractions awayso I can begin to worship. I wish all of our family would share their techniques for breakingthrough this invisible barrier..Devi
