Guest guest
Dear family, Namaste! Although I am not writing regularly, I am an avid reader of the discussions on this web site. I have heard the term Asuras being mentioned a couple of times, by Maa to Vish (half jokingly) and more recently in the story narrated by Swamiji about Tulsi and the relevance of the conch in a path. Who are the Asuras? What are the characteristics attributed to Asuras? I am specifically interested because I live in a part of the world where there still are people whose family name is Ashuri (or Asur). Assyrians ruled here before Islam and before Zoroastrianism. Deev or Div (or Dev) are considered bad spirits. In fact Dev deepavali in Benares is a celebration of the victory of Devs over Asurs.Obviously there is a historical connotation, probably the facts are lost but the memory remains in Myths. I live in the land of Asurs and belong here by virtue of my husband and children. Who knows the story of Asurs and Deevs? Will be grateful for the info. Jai Maa and Jai Swamiji!
