Srimanmahaganadhipataye namah We bow down to the Respected Great Lord of Wisdom or Lord of the Multitudes Sriman is the respected one Maha is great Ganas are a flock, troop, multitude, number, tribe, series, class, body of followers or attendants.(Source: Monier Williams) Pathi is Father or Lord. Pathaye is the dative case for pati (i.e., to srimanmahaganadhipati). Namah is the noun, " salutations. " Sri Ganesha is the first to be worshiped in any Puja. He obtained this boon from Lord Siva. He stood at the door to protect his Mother Goddess Parvati and so He is at every door. We pray to Him for wisdom, before beginning any new venture and when passing through any door, and befor commencing travel. Especially before commencing new study or marriage.
