Guest guest
About diet, doctors know meat, fish and eggs, if you want to be vegetarian I think you can do it no matter what. If you feel bad about it it will not help you feel healthier. If they think you need more protein then increase your lentil intake, almond milk, you can make nice balls with nuts, seeds and honey. If you want to know how I can tell you. Kanji and toor dal soup is helpful if you need strength. I feel there are always ways around this. Guest guest
Myself, I have tried numerous times to become vegetarian and have ended up being sick. I have a problem with anemia, but also I have much difficulty digesting bean proteins and too much of whole grains and even some vegetables. Milk can be a problem for me as well. At this point I try to maintain a diet of one meat meal a day. The other meals will feature either dairy or eggs and soy protein in some form or other legumes. And I try to emphasize the vegetables. I don't think there is one answer to this issue. As it is said, one man's meat is another man's poison. Also, I consider this to be part of samsara. Life feeds on life and you can't really get away from that. Plants, vegetables, legumes and fruits all have life of their own and we must take it away in order to survive. Having said that, I realize that animal life is much closer to our own life type and that should be respected. I have not given up on this issue, but I know to suddenly change how I eat is not the answer. It takes much work and gradual change for me to arrive at the ideal solution. I may never in this life be able to totally give up flesh foods. Only by Mother's grace. I will follow Swamiji's advice and try to do the least harm. Jai Shree Maa! Jai Swamiji! Guest guest
also i forgot to mention... "Dandelion leaves are high in iron, vitamins, minerals, (especially vitamin A and potassium) and are useful for treating anemia according to western herbal tradition. " http://www.skyeherbals.com/materia_medica/dandelion.php and all DARK greens are really essential for people having trouble with vegetarianism. not spinich, not even kale. im talking chard, mustard greens, collards, broccoli rab, etc. combined they contain all of the trace minerals and protiens that you would get from any beans or meat. http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/leafy.html for me it was a transition over 2 years where fish was the last thing i let go of. do what is right for your bodies. it is my belief that the body knows what nutrients and vitamines it needsand if we educate ourselves to know what nutrients are in what we can provide the food for it. by changing my diet i can get anything. hopefully this information helps. god bless, dan mjfisher2005 <mjfisher2005 Tue, Jul 14, 2009 10:25 am Re: [www.ShreeMaa.org] Swamiji answers - 27 - Diet Myself, I have tried numerous times to become vegetarian and have ended up being sick. Guest guest
Thank you for your advice, Dan. I will try to make sure I include dark leafy veggies in my diet. I think as you say that to be aware of the nutritional content of food is very important until you have an intuitive sense about how to eat when you change your diet. Also diverse foods should be chosen as much as possible. Too many of us in North America use very little discrimination about what we eat and just eat whatever we like. It is difficult then to change things around and have a new consciousness about food. Our bodies are not used to it either and don't take well to it. I am glad I spoke the truth about the way I eat, because then perhaps with others help I can find a way to doing the least harm to other beings on this planet and to myself! I am also introducing my husband to various vegetarian foods. He seems to be taking to it well which makes me happy. I hope some of the things I do rub off on him just a little. Jai Maa! Jai Swamiji!
