My son (23 years old) called and spoke with her around 9 am to tell her he wanted to stop by for a visit. He arrived about an hour later to find her unresponsive; a 911 call, CPR, and paramedics all confirmed that she had already left her body. I arrived shortly thereafter and had the blessings of being able to pray with her, along with my family who were also close and available to come right away. > > My mother is a kind, gentle, generous soul who lived and passed simply. She wasn't here for material gain, but poured her life energy into loving her children and grandchildren, and being a living prayer to everyone she met. In the forty-two years that we shared this life together, I could count on one hand the times that I heard even a tinge of harshness or selfishness in her voice. She experienced many trials and losses, never complaining but allowing each heart break to make her heart bigger and bring her closer to her God. My life, and the lives of my family, are indescribably rich because of her nurturing heart. > > If you feel so inspired, please send prayers for her safe and luminous passage on to her next Radiant Adventure. Please also send prayers for healing for my son, who is taking it a little hard ( " if only I had arrived sooner.... " ) and comfort and wisdom for those of us who are blessed to be in the shining circle of my mother's love. > > And thank you, mom, for through your own example of purity all my life you led me on to discover another blessed mother, Shree Maa, to continue nurturing my growth. And Shree Maa, thank you for your presence and guidance at my mother's passing. > > Here is a poem that a friend shared with me at Mother's Day this year, which touched me then and even more so now. I pray that this little sharing of my mother's story would bring you all a little love and open-heartedness too! : ) Jennifer > > Coming Home, by Hathaway Barry > > " No one deserves the beauty of death, " > a dying mother whispered > to her attentive daughter > while the household fussed and fretted > around her and sunlight > fell unnoticed > across the dusty wooden floor. > > She had come home > with her own small baby > to tend her still-young mother- > the only one of the three sisters > who felt she could bear it. > > Somehow, drawn by death > and the lure of wisdom > waiting there, she knew to come close > to listen, so it was she alone > who heard what her mother had to say > > and it has made her life > shine. >
