Guest guest
First part of meditation on Kali Dhyanam khadgam cakragadesucaapaparighaanchuulam bhushundeem shirah shankham samdadhateem karaistrinayanaam sarvaangabhooshaavrutaam Bearing in Her ten hands the sword of worship, the discus of revolving time, the club of articulation, the bow of determination, the iron bar of restraint, the pike of attention, the sling, the head of egotism, and the conch of vibrations. She has three eyes and displays ornaments on all her limbs khadga: sword chakra: discus gada: mace, club, or bludgeon chaapa: bow parigha: iron bar or bludgeon or club studded with iron shoolam: a weapon which has a pointed dart on its end, pike, lance bhushundi: sling (could not find this in the dictionary) shira: head shanka: conch samdadhateem: dadha is to hold and sam is with or together, bearing karaih: hands trinayanaam: three eyes sarvaanga: all the limbs bhushavritaam: displays ornaments sword represents worship discus represents revolving time club represents articulation (of mantras) bow represents determination iron bar represents restraint. Parigha is also the iron beam that we find in the gates of some houses and temples. There it restraints people from coming in when the gate is locked. Here of course restraint is restraint of the senses, etc. Pike or Shoola represents attention. The more famous shoola is the thrishool of Shiva. Head represents our Ego Conch represents all the vibrations of the Universe. Thus, Swamiji's translation of the weapons inspires the devotee to give his or head to Kali and worship Her articulating the mantras, restraining the senses, paying attention to Her, sitting in the asan with determination. Every sound is her sound. And She who holds the discus of revolving time is beyond time. Love, srini
