Guest guest
Is it possible to burn up prarabda karma through prayer and such things as chanting Chandi Path? And, is it possible to change negative personality traits through the same means, or are we always continually struggling with the same personal weaknesses and issues -- just trying to keep them under control through sadhana? I'm asking these questions as an average person trying to fit in an hour or two of spiritual practice a day, not as a spiritual super-achiever aiming at total liberation (although I have great respect for those who are doing that). Thanks for any responses, Rosetta
Guest guest
through sadhana we strengthen the samskaras that are more sattwic. it is my opinion that the others fall away . the metaphor used is that when a childs favorite toy is replaced with a new shinier new toy the child leaves the old toy behind. it is a very tricky question to ask how does it work? ive been asking and i am finding answers for myself. a book that i have read several times is http://www.amazon.com/Death-Birth-Understanding-Karma-Reincarnation/dp/0893891479 gives some great insight into the inner workings of karma and how sadhana redirects it. an hour or 2 is plenty to see results in your life and watch your negative traits be cleansed. i know i have seen it in my life. just my 25 cents Namaste, Dan rosaroja24 <rosaroja24 Mon, Aug 10, 2009 7:31 pm [www.ShreeMaa.org] burning up karma, changing personality traits Is it possible to burn up prarabda karma through prayer and such things as chanting Chandi Path? Guest guest
Dear Rosetta, Substitute " habit " for the word karma. It is a simplification, but an edifying one. Yes you can change your habits by replacing unhealthy ones based on selfishness with healthy ones based on selflessness and love. Part of our problem is that through pride we identify strongly with our weaknesses and issues. For most people these issues are nowhere near as bad as we think they are. We also tend to weigh them more heavily than our many good qualities. We don't need to be perfect! The desire to be perfect is actually an act of violence against ourself. Would you demand that a friend of yours is perfect? Would you keep a friend that demanded that you were perfect? A healthy sense of humor and a genuine interest in the lives and wellbeing of others can help us to relax the tight grasp on these personality traits. Spiritual practice such as Chandipath done with the motivation to benefit others or as an act of surrender can do so strongly. You don't need to be a full time practitioner to reap the benefits. What is most important is your pure intention and a regular practice.
