Guest guest
On page 328 of the Cosmic Puja, can anyone explain the verse: audhumbaraya dadhnaya nilaya paramesthine vrkodaraya citraya citraguptaya vai namaha (To He who lives with the Udumbara tree, to the Giver, to the Dark One, to the Supreme amongst Desired Ones; to the Hidden One, to the Varied One and to the hidden among the Varied Ones, I bow.) Does this refer to Yama, as did the previous verse, or possibly to Shiva? Thanks, as always, for any response ;-) Rosetta
Guest guest
Namaste! It refers to Yama, the God of Death. The two verses together are called Yama Vandanam. Guest guest
Thanks, Srini: By telling me that the verses are called Yama Vandanam, I was able to search for that prayer and find many explanations of the meaning. Guest guest
Namaste! There is an obscure reference in the Rig Veda where the Devas and Yama came to an Udumbara tree and drank its sap. The Udumbara is a type of fig tree: Ficus Glomerata.
