The first part of the meditation on Maha Saraswati

 

Ghantaa shula halaani shankha musale chakram dhanuh saayakam

hasthaabjair dadhatheem ghanantha vilasacceethaam shutulya prabhaam.

 

ghanta: the bell of continuous tone

shula: the Pike of Concentration

hala: the plow sowing the seeds of the Way of Truth to Wisdom

shankha: The conch of vibrations

musal: the pestle of refinement (used to clean rice)

chakram: the discus of revolving time

dhanuh: the bow of determination

saayakam: the arrow of speech

hastha: hands

abja: lotus

dadatheem: bearing

Ghanantha vilasaccee thaamshu: whose radiance is like the moon in autumn

tulya: equal, like

prabhaam: beautiful appearance

Namaste Srini,

 

my thoughts are that your are doing us all a great service. It is only now that

I understand 'shutulya' is not a word, and that I should take a look at the

Devanagari if I cannot find something in the dictionary. Apparently, sometimes

words that are one in Devanagari are separated in the transliteration at a

seemingly illogical place (illogical to me, that is).
