Treat your brother and sister the way you want to be treated. 2. A Golden Rule of Native People Give to others as they give to you - Mother Earth, Father Sky, Sister Deer, Brother Eagle, the trees our relatives, the Stars our Ancestors. 3. A Golden Rule of Duty Do your part in life as others have done in the past for you. 4. A Golden Rule of Ancient Places Respect others, as you like to be respected. Every person, family, tribe or village has a special protecting deity. In your travels, always greet the deity of the place first. 5. A Golden Rule of Zoroastrianism That nature alone is good which refrains from doing to others what is not good itself. 6. A Golden Rule of Judaism Love your neighbour as yourself. 7. A Golden Rule (a) of Taoism Surrender yourself humbly; then you can be trusted to care for all things. Love the world as your own self; then you can truly care for all things. 8. A Golden Rule (b) of Taoism I am good to people who are good. I am also good to people who are not good. Goodness is Virtue. Cultivate Virtue in yourself, in the family, in the village, in the nation and in the universe. 9. A Golden Rule of Buddhism He who, seeking his own happiness, does not injure or kill beings, who also long for happiness, will find happiness after death. Let us live happily then, not hating those who hate us. 10. A Golden Rule of Confucianism What you do not wish done to yourself, do not do to others. 11. A Golden Rule of Greek Philosophy An unexamined life is not worth living. I know that I do not know. Allow yourself and others to learn by asking questions and waiting for answers. 12. A Golden Rule of Christianity The Jews say, `Love your neighbour as yourself.' Who is your neighbour? Even the untouchables (the Samaritans); even the enemy. 13. A Golden Rule of Islam Desire for another what you desire for yourself. The best thing in Islam is to feed the hungry and give the greeting of peace both to those one knows and to those one does not know. 14. A Golden Rule of Sikhism I am a servant of whomsoever He has created. My master (Guru Nanak) abides in everyone. I have neither enemy nor opponent. We go along together, united in close embrace as brothers. 15. A Golden Rule of Hinduism If you want peace, my child, do not look into anyone's faults. Look into your own faults. Learn to make the world your own. No one is a stranger. The whole world is your own. 16. A Modern Golden Rule Judge your neighbour. Yes - judge your neighbour. Look honestly at the thought in your mind. Is it really true for all time? Take your neighbour out of the thought and put yourself into it (turn it around). What can I learn? What can I do about the problem? 17. An Inner Golden Rule Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.
