Guest guest
Dear All If you have a taste for fine gemstones and jewellery, including Navratna Rings, you will visit a hundred jewellery shops till you come to the right one. You should of course be prepared to pay the requisite price for quality, but there is no need to go overboard. One jeweller may charge you Rs.2.50 lakhs for a very good quality one carat belgium diamond but it would be sheer stupidty to pay Rs.4.00 lakhs to another jeweller for the same quality, just because he is bent on taking you to the cleaners. I have stayed for months in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. I have been in Calcutta for over 4 decades and over 3 years in Chennai. I have also observed the craze for Navratna rings in Chennai. I have very rarely come across people wearing the cheap junk "Navratna rings" [junk stones set in bad quality silver rings available for as little as Rs.1,000/-] in Chennai. Bapalal & Co., at 37 Cathedral Road, Chennai 600 086 sells quality readymade Navratna Rings where good quality gemstones are set in gold. You also have the option of selecting the individual gemstones and having it set in gold. The price matches the quality and is not exhorbitant i.e. they do not take you for a ride. They are in the gemstones and jewellery business since 1910. My mother wears a 1 carat diamond ring purchased in 1956 from Bapalal and the divine beauty of this diamond is to be seen to be believed. Of course "blue-jacker" diamonds as my mother describes them, are rarely available these days. So it all boils down to class, quality and your being able to afford fine jewellery.
