Guest guest
In holy Sridham Vrindavan there is Rasa-sthali - place of Lord Krishnas Rasa-lila. At the entrance is a Shiva-linga named Gopeshwar Mahadev, and it is traditionally forbidden to enter Rasasthali without first getting blessing of Lord Shiva by bathing this lingam. Why is this still the case there? The story goes that Lord Shiva wanted to join Rasa-lila. He bathed in Yamuna and obtained the white body of a unlimitedly beautiful Gopi, and as such He entered Krishna Rasa-lila. Krishna saw Lord Shiva for who He was, and overjoyed to see Shankar Lord Krishna left Rasa-lila, and He went to speak with Shiva.Seeing Krishna has left, Srimati Radharani thought Krishna was with a new Gopi, who was EXTREMELY beautiful, so feeling lost She started to weep. Her tears formed a small stream which finally touched the Feet of Lord Krishna.Startled, Krishna at once pacified Radha and explained this was actually Lord Shiva as a Gopi, not a competitor. Radharani was so overjoyed She blessed Lord Shiva, as Gopeshwar Mahadev, to be the gate keeper of the Rasalila, which He is eternally. As such, WHAT Vaishnava could ever disrespect Lord Mahadev? One cannot enter Rasasthai without worshiping Shiva, even today, in Bhauma Vrindavan.Y/s,RichardRichard Shaw Brown, PGMusician, Designer, Gemologist & Authorwww.richardshawbrown.com New Email names for you! Guest guest
I must add that this story is much sweeter in Hindi than in English. And well spoken. I actually enjoyed the katha more than the bhajan (which I also enjoyed)... Guest guest
Nice to know Richard ji,artist name is Niranjan Pandya from Gujarat and most of time atleast as per my limited knowledge he sings and praise Shiva in his bhajans but this special one which you saw is a unique one and I too love it very much, perhaps when shivites praise Shri Krishna it is much much sweeter than usual prayers. Same goes for Shri Shiva(in vaishnava's ways of praising like you did by giving Shri Gopishwara example).--- On Sun, 12/20/09, rsbj66 <rsbj66 wrote: rsbj66 <rsbj66 Re: A story of Lord Shivasacred-objects Date: Sunday, December 20, 2009, 11:45 AM I must add that this story is much sweeter in Hindi than in English.
