In that situation, Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, saved Lord Shiva.SB 7.10.52: Maharaja Yudhisthira said: For what reason did the demon Maya Danava vanquish Lord Shiva's reputation? How did Lord Kṛishna save Lord Shiva and expand his reputation again? Kindly describe these incidents.SB 7.10.53: Narada Muni said: When the demigods, who are always powerful by the mercy of Lord Kṛishna, fought with the asuras, the asuras were defeated, and therefore they took shelter of Maya Danava, the greatest of the demons.SB 7.10.54-55: Maya Danava, the great leader of the demons, prepared three invisible residences and gave them to the demons. These dwellings resembled airplanes made of gold, silver and iron, and they contained uncommon paraphernalia. My dear King Yudhisthira, because of these three dwellings the commanders of the demons remained invisible to the demigods. Then the great mystic Maya Danava dropped the demons into a nectarean well that he had created.SB 7.10.60: When the dead bodies of the demons came in touch with the nectar, their bodies became invincible to thunderbolts. Endowed with great strength, they got up like lightning penetrating clouds.SB 7.10.61: Seeing Lord Shiva very much aggrieved and disappointed, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Vishnu, considered how to stop this nuisance created by Maya Danava.SB 7.10.62: Then Lord Brahma became a calf and Lord Vishnu a cow, and at noon they entered the residences and drank all the nectar in the well.SB 7.10.63: The demons could see the calf and cow, but because of the illusion created by the energy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the demons could not forbid them. The great mystic Maya Danava became aware that the calf and cow were drinking the nectar, and he could understand this to be the unseen power of providence. Thus he spoke to the demons, who were grievously lamenting.SB 7.10.64: Maya Danava said: What has been destined by the Supreme Lord for oneself, for others, or for both oneself and others cannot be undone anywhere or by anyone, whether one be a demigod, a demon, a human being or anyone else.SB 7.10.65-66: Narada Muni continued: Thereafter, Lord Kṛishna, by His own personal potency, consisting of religion, knowledge, renunciation, opulence, austerity, education and activities, equipped Lord Shiva with all the necessary paraphernalia, such as a chariot, a charioteer, a flag, horses, elephants, a bow, a shield and arrows. Guest guest
Resp.Richard jiLet me search my library but first let me give you one example, there is no where word Demigod written in Hindu shashtras,it is imported word from English and Iskcon used it widely specially for Shivji in their regular speeches.Even word Godhead is also imported,we as you know well either use Deva or Ishwara or Bhagvan.Do these word give justice?Sadly answer is No.Interesting article I recently came across was about 33 Koti devtas translation in English, originally Koti phrase used in Sanskrit does not mean Billions but to show the size or something like that, when many of our literatures lost during moghul era and Angrej took many hand written scripts with them to west they show this Koti word and translated as Billions i.e 32 billions Devas..will try to post specific difference later, even you can find tikas from Gita Press(whom I rate with very high standards compare to other organizations) and it will show wide differences to the current uploaded stuff of Iskcon for Gitaji and Shrimad Bhagavatam.Radhe Radhe.--- On Tue, 4/13/10, Richard Shaw Brown <rsbj66 wrote:Richard Shaw Brown <rsbj66Re: Shastra Katha: Srimad Bhagavatam: 7/10sacred-objects Date: Tuesday, April 13, 2010, 12:59 AM  Dear Sriman,Namaste! Guest guest
Dear Sriman, Namaste!!! Yes, there is a word for Demigod, that is Deva. Like Lord Shiva is MahaDeva. The Iskcon people have many misconceptions, not only looking down on Lord Shiva and his bhaktas, but looking down on members of their own Sampradaya from other Gurus. And even within their own movement there are many looked down on and even banned. It is simply offensive beyond words. It is a madhouse! Essentially they are taught that Krishna is Avatari, sarva-karana-karanam, adi-purusha, always existing, never began. And all other realities are from this root. This is a philosophical view I also share, but that is where the similarity ends. Lord Shiva is Guna-avatara with Vishnu and Brahma, and thus He is also Bhagavan, and He is worshiped by those who want either a cash, or prayojan of Kailash Dham OR nirakar-brahman. And that is fine. Eveyone is not meant to be Shiva Bhakta, even those they should be. Even Krishna is only for select few, and can never be a large movement. This is said in Gita, " Manushanam sahasreshu " Out of thousands of men one rarely becomes Bhakta of Krishna. And same is true with Lord Shiva, not every soul is meant for sayujya-mukti (as rejected by Hanuman), and not ever soul is ready for Bhakti. But generally speaking all Hindu dharma (Sanatan dharma) is in two sides, viz., dvaita-vaad OR advaitavad. The later being, by definition, " atheism " or nastik, because in Mukti there is no concept of God, and no God means " Atheist " - look it up! But Shiva is also said to be greatest Vaishnava and even has the Rudra Vaishnava Sampradaya coming from Shiva. Then again, Krishna worships Lord Shiva, as does Lord Rama, as does EVERY sensible Hindu. But don't fret about Iskcon. Guest guest
Hare Krishna Prabhu, Please accept my best wishes, all glories to Sri Guru and Gauranga, all glories to all the devotees of the Lord. Prabhu most of the ISKCONites I know have a great devotion towards Lord Shiva. Quite a few of them wear Rudrakshas as well. Yes few of the ISKCONites have similar opinion about Lord Shiva (considering Him as demigod) as you have mentioned in your below mail Prabhu. Similarly all Shevites also does not show their great devotion to Krishna/ Vishnu and His incarnations. But in my knowledge most of the Shevites do have a great devotion towards Lord Vishnu and His incarnations. As per Hari Bhakti Vilasa 5/396 from Skanda Purana, there is a sholaka which is a conversation between Lord Shiva and His son Skanda or Kartikeye. PUJITO’HAM NA TAIR MARTYAIR NAMITO’HAM NA TAIR NARAHNAKRTAM MARTYA LOKE YAIH SALAGRAM SILARCANAM (HARI BHAKTI VILASA 5/396 From SKANDA PURANA)(Lord Shiva speaks to his son, Skanda) in this mortal world, if anyone does not worship Shalagram Shila, I do not not at all accept any of their worship and obeisances. This Shaloka shows immense, great and ardent devotion of Lord Shiva towards Shaligram Shilas (Shaligram Shilas are the direct manifestation of Lord Vishnu), but this doesnot mean that all Shevites are worshipping Shaligram Shilas Prabhu. So I think it is more of an individual perception and opinion and cannot be generalised Prabhu. Prabhu WWW.SHALIGRAM.COM is the only ISO 9001:2008 Certified Organisation in the World dealing with most genuine and rarest Shaligram Shilas, Exclusive Rudrakshas tested with latest machines and X Rayed to negate any abnormality in the inside structure, Aura and Chakra Balancing thro latest machines, Rarest and genuine Meteorites, 24 carats Gold plated Yantras, Real Makrana Marble Hindu Gods Statues/idols and temples of all sizes, Rare Right side Heera Shankhs, Auspicious Dwarka Shilas, Sacred Govardhan Shilas, All Sapphires and Gems, and all rare religious products and puja items Prabhu.I hope this will help,Aum Namoh Bhagvate Vasudevay Saligram Devah NamahaI beg to remain yours in the humble service of the Lord and Hisdevotees. It is a madhouse!Essentially they are taught that Krishna is Avatari, sarva-karana- karanam, adi-purusha, always existing, never began. And all other realities are from this root. This is a philosophical view I also share, but that is where the similarity ends.Lord Shiva is Guna-avatara with Vishnu and Brahma, and thus He is also Bhagavan, and He is worshiped by those who want either a cash, or prayojan of Kailash Dham OR nirakar-brahman. And that is fine. Eveyone is not meant to be Shiva Bhakta, even those they should be. Even Krishna is only for select few, and can never be a large movement. This is said in Gita, "Manushanam sahasreshu" Out of thousands of men one rarely becomes Bhakta of Krishna. The later being, by definition, "atheism" or nastik, because in Mukti there is no concept of God, and no God means "Atheist" - look it up!But Shiva is also said to be greatest Vaishnava and even has the Rudra Vaishnava Sampradaya coming from Shiva. Guest guest
Dear Rajivji, Namaste! Hare Krishna!!! Yes, of course. There are many very nice Krishna bhaktas in Iskcon, and specially in Mumbai where my good friend Radhanath Swami lives. But we're only referring to those who look down on Lord Mahadev. Certainly anyone who knows of Gopishwar Mahadev in Vrindavan, they must understand the Lord's greatness. Still, we can never generalize, nor cast any judgment that is certain. The greatest Shivite I ever knew was named, Hari Siddhi Kali Baba of Nepal. And he was a real devotee, if not shaktyavesh of Mahadev. Jai ho!!! Guest guest
Hello Richard Ji Can you please quote from what verse of what text or puran it is mentioned “Yes, there is a word for Demigod, that is Devaâ€. I too worship Lord Krishna and equally to Lord Mahadev but this wrong preaching needs to be put full stop. Thanks RAHULSHARMA Jai Shri Ganesh Gajaananam bhoodha ghanaathi sevithamkabhitha jamboo palasara pakshithamumaasutham sokha vinaasakaranamnamaami vigneswara paadha pankajam--- On Tue, 4/13/10, rsbj66 <rsbj66 wrote: rsbj66 <rsbj66 Re: Shastra Katha: Srimad Bhagavatam: 7/10sacred-objects Date: Tuesday, April 13, 2010, 4:52 PM Dear Sriman,Namaste!!! The later being, by definition, "atheism" or nastik, because in Mukti there is no concept of God, and no God means "Atheist" - look it up!But Shiva is also said to be greatest Vaishnava and even has the Rudra Vaishnava Sampradaya coming from Shiva. Then again, Krishna worships Lord Shiva, as does Lord Rama, as does EVERY sensible Hindu. But don't fret about Iskcon. Because they are "frogs in a well" and you don't want to belong, I assure you, it is a total mess. Full of misconceptions and political-spiritual ity. Just avoid, as do I. And don't care about them at all.Y/s,Richardsacred-objects, tp mods <tpmods wrote:>> Resp.Richard jiLet me search my library but first let me give you one example, there is no where word Demigod written in Hindu shashtras,it is imported word from English and Iskcon used it widely specially for Shivji in their regular speeches.Even word Godhead is also imported,we as you know well either use Deva or Ishwara or Bhagvan.Do these word give justice?Sadly answer is No.> Interesting article I recently came across was about 33 Koti devtas translation in English, originally Koti phrase used in Sanskrit does not mean Billions but to show the size or something like that, when many of our literatures lost during moghul era and Angrej took many hand written scripts with them to west they show this Koti word and translated as Billions i.e 32 billions Devas..will try to post specific difference later, even you can find tikas from Gita Press(whom I rate with very high standards compare to other organizations) and it will show wide differences to the current uploaded stuff of Iskcon for Gitaji and Shrimad Bhagavatam.> Radhe Radhe.> > --- On Tue, 4/13/10, Richard Shaw Brown <rsbj66 wrote:> > Richard Shaw Brown <rsbj66> Re: Shastra Katha: Srimad Bhagavatam: 7/10> sacred-objects> Tuesday, April 13, 2010, 12:59 AM> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > > > Dear Sriman,> > Namaste!
