Namaste friends,

For my birthday I recieved a Shivalinga which was made into a necklace

by having a hole drilled in one end, a jump ring was screwed in so that

it could be strung. I love to wear it, but it has been less than a

week since my birthday and it has come away from the chain twice now.

How do you feel about a Shivalinga having a hole drilled into it? Do

you think that it means something that it has come off of the setting

twice? It is a cheap looking jump ring and probably anything strung on

it would fall off, but still I think that it is probably not right to

wear the linga in this way. I am not presently wearing the linga, as I

feel that it might be better not to.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thank you.

Celeste

Namaste CelesteJust so that you are aware1) Having the hole drilled into the Linga is not the problemhowever if you are wearing an energized Linga (with prana Prathistha etc..) this can cause you problems, (I can't remember the exact reference but remember reading in the Shiva Purana that it is written women are forbidden from touching the Linga during Puja.If this is coming off by itself, I would like to suggest that you don't wear it,alternatively place it on your altar and worship it there.Best RegardsPandit Devindra Maharajcelesstn <imamuzd wrote: Namaste friends, For my birthday I recieved a Shivalinga which was made into a necklace by having a hole drilled in one end, a jump ring was screwed in so that it could be strung. How about wearing a trident as a sign of Shiva and worshipping the linga with Yoni, Naga and Nandi. I would consider the linga pierced to be khandith and would rather emerse it in a water body. Best Regards, Jay

Hello and thank you for responding,

I did not drill the hole in the linga, it was already made into a

necklace, and I recieved it as a birthday gift. I have not worn it

since the secong time it fell off the chain. It sits next to my statue

of Shiva Nataraj.

khandith - I think it means broken murtis which can not be worshipedNote :- when murtis ( Hindus do not worship idols, this is a mis label ) are properly consecrated they are supposed to become "living" i.e charged and connected to the energy of the form of divinity that it represents. Hence they are not idols which are inert. Murtis are supposed to be beautiful, whole and complete, they should not be broken or defiled (for worship).Namah SivayaBest RegardsPandit Devindra Maharajcelesstn <imamuzd wrote: Hello, Please explain "khandith" to me, I was not raised in the Hindu tradition, and I am in the process of learning. Thank you, Celeste
