Hi JoyAn Avatar is usually attributed to the Supreme Lord who manifests himself on Prithvi from time to time to save the innocent & punish the wicked. So far there have been 9 avatars of the Lord, each one with a specific purpose.

Reincarnation, literally means " to be made flesh again " and as per some beliefs its only humans who can take part in the re-birth concept. This is different from Avatar which is manifestation of one & the only Lord.

Hi

Could someone explain what an Avatar is and how this is different from

human reincarnation?.

Hi ,

My 2 cents on this (from what I have heard from Gurus). Avatar

literally means 'To descend'. All the avatars of GOD are already

present in the spiritual sky and they simply descend when the time

for their pastime comes. Avatars are in a way expansions of the

supreme lord. All aspects of the avatars are completely spiritual and

got nothing to do with matter except that they descend in the

material world.

On the other hand , re-incarnation is taking on a material cover to

fulfill our desires nd bear the fuits of our Karma. Nothing is

spiritual except the atma and we dont descend from

existing 'models', rather we build our own models to fit our

requirements.

Thanks
