Dear Members,

Meditating With A Mantra

Meditation can actually improve every aspect of our life. Yet, often we have difficulty sitting still and clearing our minds. Thoughts of work, relationships, or that long list of household chores, come creeping in, disturbing the stillness of the mind and soul that we are trying to achieve. A mantra is a sound that is repeated during meditation. Meditating with a mantra helps us to stop thinking so that we can experience spiritual consciousness, and the sounds of the mantra help guide our attention away from thinking.

Traditional mantras are derived from the 50 letters of the Sanskrit alphabet, however any word can be used as a mantra. The important thing is to find a word or sound that has special meaning to you. Try using words like " love " or " peace " or another word you connect with on a personal level. While purists follow strict guidelines regarding meditation practices, such as what mantra to use or how the mantra is chosen, many people have developed effective meditation practices on their own.

The following are mantras are in Sanskrit and designed to connect us with the sacred. If you're not sure which mantra to use, Om is a good one to start with. Om (pronounced ohm) represents the Supreme Being. The past, present, and future are all included in this one sound. This is the mantra DailyOM is named after.

Ah (pronounced ahh) a basic mantra for manifesting thoughts into reality. Begin by chanting or repeating the mantra and then visualize whatever you'd like to manifest. Shivo ham (pronounced shi-voh-hum) is to awaken to one's own spirituality

Meditating with a mantra is an easy way to block out life's distractions and to stay focused on purity of intention. It helps quiet the mind and release stress, so that we may connect with our sacred self.
