Guest guest
Dear Friends,I have received a mail from one member of a asking me to clarify as to what happens to the Atma after it leaves the body? Answer to this question is available in Chandogya and Brihadaranyaka Upanishads. Also to some extent in the Kathopanishad. Unless one has attained liberation from the cycle of births and deaths, when the body is shed, one takes rebirth. On death of a jiva, the soul(SOOKSHMA and KARANA SAREERAs) of that jiva, based on the thoughts and feelings entertained, actions done or omitted to be done etc. etc,by the person during the tenure of his life in that body takes birth in another body . Yama, God of death has clearly stated in the Katopanishad that rebirth is certain for a person who has not attained self-realisation before the Atma separates from the body. Why do we take rebirth? Because we have a necessity to fulfill the desires that we could not fullfil through our body in this birth. Ordinarily, rebirth takes place because most people in the world are ordinary and every one has some kind of desire or the other. Everyone is filled with egoism and self-assertive nature and therefore every one will be reborn. It must be borne in mind at this stage that the Atma is neither born nor it dies. Birth and death are only at the level of the body. The Atma is everywhere. In fact the upanishads declare that everything is Atma only--"ATMAIVEDAM SARVAM. The Atma does not go anywhere. The Upanishads assert it does not move at all. G.Balasubramanian Everyone is raving about the all-new Mail Beta.
