Guest guest
Dear Friends, Very often a question comes to our mind as to why God is kind to some and merciless to others. We also find good souls suffering whereas wicked souls flourish. This is an age-old question. Perhaps, it is as old as the world itself. It is true that some wicked persons do flourish in this world of hypocrisy and deception. But that does not mean that they are free from suffering. It is said that really good souls do not suffer as much as the flourishing wicked ones. This is because there is peace in their hearts. Bhishma, when he was in the bed of arrows shed tears, was questioned as to why he shed tears. He replied stating that though the Pandavas were righteous and Lord Krishna was with them, they underwent much of suffering. To the noble souls, living upto the ideals they hold sacred , by itself is a great source of hapiness. The happiness and misery of people can be explained only in terms of the law of Karma. In our past births we would have commited several mistakes or sins. In the current birth, even if we happen to be noble souls, we have to suffer because of sins committed in previous incarnations. Again, wicked persons, though they seem to be well-off, are now reaping the good results of past good actions. But they will have to pay the price of current wicked actions later. It is the Law of Karma that lifts God above all the good and bad conditions of man. God can not be held responsible for the material state of affairs of the individual or the enjoyment or suffering of man. If God indulges in showing favours to some and deny the same to others then God can not be God. God is always a witness. He is impartial. God has no likes and dislikes. God is said to act as a Karma Phaladata. It is said that true devotion to God can help to mitigate one`s sufferings at times. Let Love, Compassion and other noble qualities rule our heart and Intellect. Let us pray to God to give us Sadbuddhi so that we will not commit fresh mistakes or sins, so that our next incarnations can be less painful as compared to existing one. Guest guest
Dear Mr Balasubramanian sir, Thank you so much for posting these revelatory articles. For people that have attempted a study of advaita vedanta, these are obvious. For the rest of us, these are either revelations or things to be pooh-poohed. Sanchita Karma is our mountain of karmas acquired over our past lifetimes. Not all of these Sanchita Karmas will fructify now. Only a portion will fructify. The Karmas that are ready for fructification are called Prarabdha Karma. The fresh Karmas acquired in our present lifetime is called Aghami Karma. A portion of the Aghami Karma is also ready for fructification in this same lifetime - and does fructify. At the time of death, Prarabdha Karma is exhausted. A part of Aghami Karma is exhausted. The remainder of the Aghami Karma joins the Sanchita Karma. In the next lifetime, a portion of the new Sanchita Karma (old Sanchita Karma + unused Aghami Karma) becomes the Prarabdha Karma of the new birth. In the process of looking at horoscopes, a gifted astrologer can determine what Prarabdha Karmas will be fructifying and when, and prescribe certain Prayaschittas or rituals that can help reduce or even eliminate the ill effects of the fructification of the bad Karmas (paapas). However, nowhere in the scriptures do we have any way of eliminating, reducing or even putting a dent into the mountain of Karmas known as Sanchita Karmas. To exhaust those, one has to take multiple births and ensure that the number of Aghami Karmas are minimal to non-existent. Alternatively, light the lamp of self-knowledge and burn them all up in this lifetime itself (at least that is what I heard Swami Paramarthananda say).
