Dear Brother,Clarification is provided seriatim1.You have freedom in Hindu religion to worship any god of your choice. Worshipping Brahman is called Nirguna Upasana. Worship of Gods with form like Narayana,Siva etc. is called Saguna Upasana. Hinduism does not believe in regimentation as in other religions. Om is the Primordial Sound. It has to be prefixed to all mantras while propitiating Gods.2.Your interpretation/understanding of the yagna in Purusha Sooktam does not appear to be in line with the understanding of scholars. You have to consider the yagna as a manasa yagna, a meditative sacrifice and not as a physical yagna in which Brahman is stated to have been offered as Ahuti by devas, as interpreted by you.3.This has nothing to do with Vedic mantras.4.According to Vishnupurana, lakshmi is the daughter of Bhrigu and Khyaati. She resided in Swarga. Owing to some curse of sage Durvasa, she left swarga and made the ocean of milk as her home.5. Among the several meanings for the samskrit word lingam, one such meaning is the male organ of generation. But there are several other meanings, such as 'mark, spot, sign, characteristic etc. etc. This word has been used in Bhagawad Gita (verse 21 of chapter 14) to indicate 'sign'. Pl. keep sexuality aside while understanding scriptures.6. There is no question of one Brahman or Atman worshipping

another Brahman or Atman. Brahman only is there. All that you see is only Brahman. G.BalasubramanianMahalingam Laxman <mahalax2000brahmin_worldSent: Monday, July 20, 2009 9:14:55 AMRe: [brahmin_world] SOME THOUGHTS ON VEDA MANTRAS---1

Hari OM

Thank you for bringing a good topic.

It tamil also Thirupugazh starts with "Nadha Vindhu Kaladhi Namo nama"

I have following points for your elucidation. When OM represents Brahman why then to chant names of other gods like siva, narayanakrishna rama etc. Why not everybody chant OM only All chanting same mantra and especially same time will create more energy/power and synergy. It also bring unity among people. The muslim religion all say "Allaha Ho Akbar" at the same time

2) Prusha Sooktham says that Devas offered Brahma in the Yanja. It is unthinkable that devas who are subordinates to Brahma himself as sacrifice in the yanja. Such Statemes undermines our gods and scriptures.

3)Ayyappan born to lord ahiva and Vishnu. as mohini. it means sex ahnge or homiosexuality. Further the supreme vishnu and Shiva could not win over Asuras and solve the tussle between devas and asureas and to scoop down to such tricks.

4) It is said that Mahalakshmi born from this churning of milk ocean. Does it mean devas and asuras lived before lakshmi

5) Linga is said to represent the female and male union. Is it true If so Do we pray this symbol on the one hand and the other hand denounce male and female union.. When this represnts creation we call this god represnts Kalasamharan

6) One of the mahavakyam is "Aham Brhma asmi" If atma is brahman why one brahman has to worship another brahman?

Hope to be enlightened to have a correect understanding of our scriptures.

Laxman.

Hari OM

It is said that the origin of Veda Mantras is from vibratory movement. It is also said that creation is undertaken by Brahma with the help of the vibrations of the Veda Mantras or primordial sound. Sound vibrations are capable of creation, preservation and destruction. This has been proved in such ordinary matters as growth of plants.

Now, how does it happen that a saintly person is able to cure a disease of a person by chanting any particular mantra which we all can also chant but we find it ineffective when chanted by us? Obviously because he has greater power of concentration and invoking the vibrations in the proper manner. That is why any Veda mantra should be chanted in its purity without change of words and tone. Only then can result be obtained . Mantras are revelation to the Rishis who performed Tapas. They are the Rishis to whom the mantras are said to belong. The Rishis brought forth the mantras for the benefit of the world and they did not create them. Rishis are the MANTRA DRASHTAS ie., the MANTRA SEERS and not Mantra composers. Even so, they have rendered a great service to mankind by bringing to its ken what was already in existence but not known. No praise

is too high for the Rishis who have vouchsafed to us the mantras which were beyond our grasp. Thus the Mantras belong to the Maharishis who first came to know the Vedas.

We hear as well as utter different sounds. By the vibration of each nerve centre, a certain emotion is created in the mind. Some create passions , some laziness, and some others unhappiness. Putting it differently, when one is in passion certain nerve vibrations occurs and similarly when one is in anger. Yoga uses breath control(Pranayama) as the chief instrument in the control of the mind. Similarly, Mantra Yoga is another path. When we utter a word, the life breath is allowed to pass through the gaps in the throat, tongue, lips etc. Only then the sound of the word emantes and becomes audible. Vibrations are caused to the nerve centres situated in these areas through which breath passes to produce the sound of the word. Veda Mantras properly recited with the proper discipline produce the necessary emotions in the mind which ensure well-being to the person reciting as well as to the world. Other

baser emotions are also kept out in the process. Samasta Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu. Om Santis Santis Santih.

(To Be continued)
