Guest guest
Hari OMTrue knowledge makes a man realise that he is a'soul with a body';but ,in his ignorance ,he thinks he is a body with a soul'. The Eternal Absolute has been explained by the Lord as Infinite, all-knowing and all-blissful. But our experience of ourselves, as far as we know, is that we are finite, ignorant and miserable. Now, who is God? And who is a man? It is said that man awakened to the glory of Self is God;God forgetful of His own glory is the deluded man. The subtle Reality in each body, the indwelling Spirit in every living creature,is eternal and indestructible. All that is destroyed is only the container:the finite matter envelopment. For this reason only, Arjuna was advised that he should not grieve at facing his enemies and ,in the great battle, even killing them, if need be. What the Lord is hammering into Arjuna is the truth about the finite nature of bodies and the eternal nature of the soul. Says Lord Krishna,"The Soul that dwells in the body of everyone is ever-abiding (nityah) and indestructible(avadhyah). O Bharata;therefore you should not grieve for any creature."(verse 30,chapter2). It is not as if human beings alone have souls and not other beings. All living beings and plants have souls. All things that are born in the world-both the world of inert matter or unmoving(sthavara) and the moving or Conscious beings(jangama)- arise from the marriage of 'Field(Prakruti) and the "Knower-of-the-Field"(Purusha). Their source is not matter or Spirit by Itself. A combination of Matter and Spirit is not an accomplished union but only a mutula superimposition (Anyonya Adhyasa). In the Pure Consciousness there is no Field-of-Matter which is neither existence, nor sentiency. But the Spirit plays in the "Field"(Prakriti) , and becomes the "Knower-of-the -Field"( Purusha) and when this Purusha works in Prakriti, the combination breeds the entire phenomenal Universe constituted of the moving and the unmoving. Says Lord Krishna,"Whatsoever life is born, fixed or moving, know that it comes to be from the union of body and Soul".(verse27,chapter 13). The Self contains matter possibilities as the Self is ' Paripurna'. (to be continued) G.Balasubramanian
