Guest guest
Hi all, I'm new here so I wanted to introduce myself. I live out in Tehachapi, CA in Kern County between Bakersfield and Lancaster. We are a single income homeschooling family (I work as a supervising social worker in the field of adoptions for children in foster care). I have had an interest in Hindu type spirituality for a while and have felt drawn to Ammachi as a spiritual guide, although I am not all that well informed about her. I do need guidance and direction. However, her life and presence seem to be soothing to me. I have Asperger's Syndrome (a high functioning form of autism) so perhaps she provide that emotional connection which I often lack as I find it difficult to connect with other people so I am often alone other than my wife and children (my son also has high functioning autism). I have trying to mold my life more in the mold of the Uddhava Gita as a first step and then building on the " harder " teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. I got a Bhagavad Gita through the International Gita Society which is a great resource. I have been struggling with vegetarianism, partially as I live in a semi-rural area where that can be more difficult and expensive. As part of my nonsectarian practice (as I have not connected with a specific deity and come from no religious background) I chant japa or do kirtan " Be One. Be Love. Be Peace. " which I associate with satchitananda and Brahman - this seems to be an easy practice to bring to people unfamiliar with Hinduism. I also enjoy singing other kirtans which I find online as I see those as the ways that other people connect with the interdependent forces of the universe. I have been having nonsectarian devotional meetings with simple kirtan and japa with my wife and children. Any pointers, resources, or directions suitable for a beginner would be appreciated. In peace and Namaste, Dave

Guest guest
Welcome to our family! I would say get some of the new books written by Amma's Swami's. I love the new one, Torrential Love and have just finished this. I am not much for any other advice as I don't consider myself any kind of expert at all! LOL...I also struggle with being vegetarian-I know and my friends are working on me. I have been before and somehow fell away from it. But I am feeling more and more drawn in that direction. peace and love adriane Ammachi , " David Salyers " <salyed wrote: > > Hi all, > > I'm new here so I wanted to introduce myself. Guest guest
You know, Adriane, the best story in the new book by Swamini Krishnamrita was the one about Prabhakara Siddha Yogi. It takes up one whole page in the book, where Swamini explains what kind of avadhuta he actually was. Apparently he used to disrobe and chase women around, he said, because of the desires in their minds! He came to the ashram a few times too, and once did something like this until he was chased out by some swami or other, or the women themselves. Maybe they didn't have it in mind to engage him like that. But it sounds like he certainly knew how to grab it. It seems like Amma appreciated his particular crazy style of teaching the people. But then the avadhuta is so far mind-blown that they are totally identified as God and nobody can really understand their behavior at all. Which means too bad for the rest of us dense know-nothings. It is indeed unfortunate! Ammachi , " n2amma " <a1driane wrote: > > Welcome to our family! > I would say get some of the new books written by Amma's Swami's.
