Guest guest
Ammachi [Ammachi ] On Behalf Of Mike Brooker Sunday, June 22, 2008 9:18 PM Ammachi Amma on use of pot (was Re: Seattle Q & A Notes) I get that Amma wouldn't want her devotees to do drugs. But surely she can do better than this kind of reefer madness fear-mongering... for decades parents and middle-school teachers have been scaring kids with warnings that smoking pot causes mental illness (not to mention blindness and impotence) and marijuana is the gateway drug that leads to the " hard " stuff like acid and crack. I smoked a lot of grass during my 17th-18th years and got pretty messed up and paranoid by the end of it (grass certainly wasn't the only influence). There are kids in Fairfield, Iowa who grew up in meditating families but smoked a lot of grass during their early teens and are still basket cases years later. It doesn't affect everyone this way, but some kids don't react well at all. I tend to favor legalization of marijuana, but I'm sure there would be casualties, just as there are from alcohol. If I had to choose between the two drugs though, I'd say marijuana is far more benign.
