Guest guest
Om Amrtesvaryai Namah!!! Namaskarams!!! i agree with Keval...this kind of fear mongering never works....people will just do the opposite as a kind of rebellion: " you're not gonna tell ME what to do!! " As for health issues this is really debatable, and i think that Amma really dumbed down the whole discussion for Her own purposes...no room for medicinal uses...just simplify the whole issue and hope that the great unwashed masses will get the point. Cannabis has been used for millenia as a medicinal plant and only more recently generally as an intoxicant by large numbers of people. Medicinally the plant and its extracts are very useful for a number of complaints, eg. cancer patients, glaucoma patients, and migraineurs. of course smoking anything is not good for you in the long run, but there are alternative methods of delivering the medicine. i personally have found in the past that this medicine was extremely efficacious when orally administered (not smoked) for migraines. the nausea was majorly reduced and pain as well. if one gets used to the side effects of intoxication one may lead a more or less normal and productive life....i did this for several years when my migraines were more intense and prolonged as well as frequent...the only real drag was the cost. as for causing mental illness, i simply don't believe that old saw.... i believe that folks who are predisposed to mental illness may selfmedicate themselves to deal WITH the illness, not realising that this medicine may CONTRIBUTE to their troubles...the same holding for schizophrenics....again i really can't accept that cannabis CAUSES schizophrenia...only that it may trigger an episode, or hasten the onset of the disease in someone who is already again predisposed to getting it, by genetics or life experiences or both....that does not mean that it CAUSES the illness...that is putting the cart before the horse. Mother has always said that we just listen to Her and take what we need and discard the rest...and that we MUST use our own discrimination in applying what She says at any one particular time or to certain particular people. i can't understand why anyone would be so foolish as to bother Her with such questions when there are a lot more important issues. what's wrong with using our own DISCRIMINATION... in Amma's Divine Love, and in Her service, as ever, your own Self, visvanathan > > > > > Will write more if find my notes of someone's > > > notes. Guest guest
having been a smoker in the past, (meaning i am certainly not anti- smoke)i will mention my 2 cents worth.... simply put (i didnt hear what mothers answer was in person this tíme but i have heard her answer when asked the same question some years ago) that mother does not tell her children what to do, that ultimiately they will all make their own decisions anyway......but it is best if we do not need to go outside so that we may see within, and that she does pray for all her children who feel they need to " use " pot in this way, as for the medicinal aspects....well if medicine is needed then so be it (not ammas words, my own:) grin, in her amazing grace, jayashree noel
Guest guest
But then why would she prohibit the use at the ashrams? There's a story of Big Swami informing Amma that there was this one guy that's always smoking it, and Amma had Big Swami tell the guy that if he wanted to stay at the ashram, he needed to abide by the rules. The guy got mad at Big Swami saying that no one would be telling him what to do, claiming to be " his own boss " and left the place. Later that night (or the next day), having gone to another beach with friends, he was caught on the beach alone smoking pot and thrown in jail. The guy then returned to Amma to apologize and she said something like, " You're not your own boss now, are you? " She doesn't preach to those who don't want to be preached to, generally speaking, because they can't take it. That's why much of the 'public' talks nowadays can be discarded because they're all sweet, no substance. tom Ammachi , " noeljayashree " <jayashree.noel wrote: > > having been a smoker in the past, (meaning i am certainly not anti- > smoke)i will mention my 2 cents worth.... > simply put (i didnt hear what mothers answer was in person this tíme (snipped)

This one statement is key to understanding how Amma works with us all. She does not care to waste her physical time and energies on people who have not completely surrendered to Her. She accepts their right to not surrender to Her and lets them be, and will even talk to them very sweetly and lovingly at darshan time or otherwise, but they do not get the " hard rocks " treatment from Her that will speed up the progress. Amazingly, even the sweet talk has its way of working into us and help us transform gradually if we just give it " time " (sometimes years), viz., be open to the experience. Jai Ma!
