Guest guest
This is a diverse and somewhat interfaith event. Don't know if people realize, but a certain number of Amma devotees are Pagan. Of course Europe had a long history of religious persecution, which heavily demonized this group, much as colonial invaders later demonized Hindu religion. As many have discovered, there is common ground... Hope some SF Bay area devotees will be able to attend. *** There will be a circle dance at the Pagan Alliance Festival in Berkeley on May 9, around 12:45 or 1 pm. We'll chant divine names of Goddesses of Life and the Waters, including Mahadevi and Yemaya, while doing the Grandmothers' Dance (you know, the sunwise step where the right foot replaces the left). Some of us are Amma devotees, among a wide range of Pagan groups. This year, we dance in Full Circle, offering libation to the land and ancestors, and call on the Life Goddesses for blessing, healing, and transformation in this time of massive change. Max Dashu will lead us in dancing sunwise, stepping rhythmically, moving as we are moved, going deep, offering into the circle, and chanting sacred names for attunement, healing, and liberation. We will call to the Waters in reverence in this year of drought. Join us in a circle of all our circles, come and help us raise strength and joy and blessing. Bring drums, rattles, cymbals, staffs, banners, libation bowls, and herbal sprigs to asperge water. A Pagan procession around noon walks through part of downtown Berkeley, and the ritual will follow, starting around 12:45 noon. All are welcome. Afterwards there will be musicians and speakers in a stage program, and myriad booths of community groups, craftspeople, authors, and other creatives.
