Amma talks like this a lot in the Amritapuri satsangs and I've heard her make several similar statements. Why the outrage? Just because she's a little more fiery then what you're used to hearing in the West during her tours here.............. > > Sita > > Om Amrtesvaryai Namah!! Namaskarams!! thank you Sita for your insight into the quote that Tom offered from Amma's Amritapuri satsangs....i think that the outrage may come from folks who have not been to Amritapuri, and thus have never heard Amma say these things (as She's not so scathing openly in the west)...probly that's why they're not supposed to pass on the Amritapuri satsangs to the rest of the devotees in the outside world..... the way you explained the whole issue definitely helped me to understand the context in which such a statement may have been made.... in Amma's Divine Love, and in Her Service, as ever, your own Self, visvanathan Om Amrtesvaryai Namah! Guest guest
Dear V, Thanks for acknowledging. It remains to be said that the primary function of a sadguru is to wake people up. This shouldn't be surprising news and it's not fair to say that Amma doesn't really expect this from her babies. And from time to time Amma becomes more fiery in this endeavor. In one satsang a few years ago I remember Amma saying, " Nobody listens to me so for now on I'm not going to tell you what to do. " Sometimes it's just one sentence here or there that happens to get translated and isn't necessarily picked up by everyone. Guest guest
Hi Sita So you think Amma would love 'intensive individual' transformation too along with the generally seen 'extensive social' transformation in this particular lifetime's mission? Nice to know of that, but I must admit, I do not see empirical evidence of too much of the former in the devotees, or even that She attempts it on them all that seriously hence the occasional outburst instead of it being all the time. I personally would love (for myself only to begin with) to see a more fiery Amma too; a right and effective balance between love and discipline. She seems to be sugar and candy for most people. For me, She gives only a very 'detached love' treatment.... perhaps the discipline is inherent in the detachment, but I have yet to 'get it' in a way that truly transforms me. Jai Ma! Guest guest
Hi Manoj, Sadly, I think you're right. I guess that's why I've always remained so detached from her movement, have never been able to live in her ashram for long periods of time (with the exception of 2005, and very often find myself rather dizzy from the whole thing. What you say is really true. Yet, what is the point when devotees say, " Well, we really can't expect it, who are we anyway?...and Amma doesn't expect it from us. Let's just be satisfied with a hug and a hit of energy. And we are not capable of maintaining this shakti in our every day lives, so let's just do some good deeds from time to time...this will make us feel good and remain in Amma's favor. " Sorry for the sarcasm, but if one doesn't expect it, it certainly won't happen. Swamiji said in one of his talks lately that " Realization comes from within! " No big surprise, but he said it in such a way that was almost laughable. It's not that someone can give it to you as a gift. You, yourself need to be that.
