Guest guest Posted September 27, 2009 Report Share Posted September 27, 2009 http://www.hindu.com/2009/09/27/stories/2009092753660300.htm Students given scholarships at Amritapuri Staff Reporter KOLLAM: As part of the 56th birthday celebrations of Mata Amritanandamayi held at Amritapuri near here on Saturday, 2,000 scholarships were provided to students from impoverished families. The scholarships are part of the Vidyamritam scheme of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math (MAM) through which 32,000 students from all over the country are receiving the aid. The function was inaugurated by Governor R.S. Gavai. Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi and film actor Mohanlal were present. In his address, Mr. Gavai said that he was glad to inaugurate a function where needy children were helped. Mr. Ravi said that Amritapuri had become a sacred land since the needy were helped, both in material and spiritual ways. Mr. Mohanlal recalled coming to the Math 32 years ago for Mata Amritanandamayi’s blessings. MAM vice president Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri welcomed the gathering.
