In her address on the occasion of the Edappally Brahmasthana mahotsavam here on Friday, she suggested introducing permits to regulate the consumption of liquor. Pointing out that Kerala is famous for its peace-loving people having great reverence for human values, Mata Amritanandamayi said that the increasing use of alcohol has cast a pall of gloom over many families in the State. She said that the introduction of permits will help in checking the rampant use of alcohol. Explaining that the people of the State used to visit religious shrines and sites on various festival occasions, she said that they are now visiting liquor shops to celebrate various occasions. She urged the authorities to take effective steps to check the ill-effects of the increasing use of alcohol. Urging the governments to intervene to check the indiscriminate exploitation of nature, Mata Amritanandamayi said that global recession, wars and climate change have affected the lives of millions.
