Mata concerned over increasing use of liquor

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Mata Amritanandamayi has expressed concern over the increasing

consumption of alcohol in the State.

In her address on the occasion of the Edappally Brahmasthana mahotsavam here on

Friday, she suggested introducing permits to regulate the consumption of liquor.

Pointing out that Kerala is famous for its peace-loving people having great

reverence for human values, Mata Amritanandamayi said that the increasing use of

alcohol has cast a pall of gloom over many families in the State.

She said that the introduction of permits will help in checking the rampant use

of alcohol.

Explaining that the people of the State used to visit religious shrines and

sites on various festival occasions, she said that they are now visiting liquor

shops to celebrate various occasions.

She urged the authorities to take effective steps to check the ill-effects of

the increasing use of alcohol.

Urging the governments to intervene to check the indiscriminate exploitation of

nature, Mata Amritanandamayi said that global recession, wars and climate change

have affected the lives of millions.
