Guest guest
Vishnu Purana says Vishnu, Shiv purana says shiv, other books say shakti is more powerful. So Vishnu Purana describes how Vishnu created the Universe, Shiv purana describes how Shiv created it, while Devi Purana says Devi created it! How is a student to decide which God is the highest, & who created the Universe? (I am not a Advait Vedanti). Tatwamasi
Guest guest
We must make note that we and the Gods are the Many from the one, for we all are Brahman. But if I remember clearly, it is Brahma who is creator, Vishnu who is preserver and finally Shiva who is destroyer. This is how I explain the Trimurti: It is Brahman who creates through Brahma, who sustains through Vishnu, and who Destroys through Shiva. I believe this is in the Kurma Purana. For Brahma, it is in the Brahamanda Purana. But due to the various sects, such as Vaishnavism and and Saivism, it is up to the believer to decide who is truly the most powerful. But in the end, I say it is Ishvara/Brahman, for Brahman is the Absolute who manifests as Shiva or Vishnu.
Guest guest
In one of the Upanishads(cant remember which), the student asks his teacher, " Master, what is Brahma? " . The Teacher replies " That is is whole, infinite; from the infinite if you subtract infinite, infinite remains. If divided into two it is still infinite. " This is what Mathematics found out in the 20th century, thousands of years after Hinduism! The highest reality- Brahm, Shiv, Narayan, call it anything is infinite. But the Gods it creates are also infinite- acc to the law of mathematics( & the Upanishads)- a part of the Infinite is also infinite. So each of these Gods is in Himself/Herself complete. If we say the Infinite created the universe, we can easily say either Shiv or Vishnu or shakti created it, as being parts of the Infinite, they themselves are infinte! Thats why Hinduism says you can worship any of the millions of Gods, as ultimately you are worshipping 1 infinite Being. Also note that most of these sects(Vaishnavs, Shaivs) only came into being in the last few hundred years- in the dark ages of Hinduiusm, while originally the concept of sects, & 1 sect being superior to the other, didnt exist. Guest guest
1. Accepting supremacy of a certain god form is ones choice. A person find suitable god for worshiping depnds upon the form he likes in totality. 2.Purpose of moving towards godlyness makes easy when a matching and liking in specific god is available. 3.The person who worship many gods and believe everyone is individual and powerfull, reaches nowhere in spirituality. 4.A student should always obay in complete( a true inner surrender)to his master, and the symbol of worship suggested by his master should be worshiped lifetime. 5.The studen should be well learned, with the truth behind the scenes can only come out of such illusions, otherwise he has to find one who is superior ..he thinks may be, to learn about the truth. Guest guest
I just remembered this from a book by Sri Aurobindo- a a man asked him worshipped 2-3 Gods- Vishnu, Shiv & Durga, & his own Guru & temple priest had told him unless he chose one & focussed on that, he would never find God. The man felt guilty, as he wanted to continue worshipping all 3. Sri Arvind gave a good answer: he said all these Gods are personalities of a Godhead- & we are attracted to the God who closely resembles our personality. So strict & discplined people will be attracted to Shiv, kind & loving people to Vishnu etc. As such, complex people with complex personality might be attracted to more than 1 God- a man might be a Bhakta (Krishna), but at the same time be a serious Yogi, & hence worship Shiv as well. Arvind said this was good, as such people were better than normal people whose narrow personality & narrow way of thinking made them focus only on 1 aspect of God. In fact, Arvind said as one grows in Sadhna, one will start to understand role of all the Gods, even ones not normally worshipped like Indra, Vayu, & the person will feel Bhakti towards all the millions of personalities of God. So in Sri Aurobindos system, people who belong to only 1 sect are very limited, as they will be stuck with 1 out of the billions of personalities of God. They will never understand the whole, just a very small part of it.
