Guest guest
Namaste all. mana eva manuSyANAM karaNaM bandha mokSayaH - Pancadazi, Sri Vidyaranya Swami Mind alone is the cause of bondage and liberation. cetaH khalvasya bandhAya muktaye cAtmano matam, guNeSu saktaM bandhAya rataM vA puMsi muktaye Bhagavatam 3.25.15 The stage in which the consciousness of the living being is attached by the three modes of material nature is called conditional life or bondage. But when that same consciousness is attached to the Supreme Person, the living being is free in the state of liberation. Srimad Bhagavatam 11.23.42 dvija uvaca nayam jano me sukha-duhkha-hetur na devatatma graha-karma-kalah manah param karanam amananti samsara-cakram parivartayed yat The brahmana said: These people are not the cause of my happiness and distress. Neither are the demigods, my own body, the planets, my past work, or time. Rather, it is the mind alone that causes happiness and distress and perpetuates the rotation of material life. 11.23.44 aniha atma manasa samihata hiran-mayo mat-sakha udvicashte manah sva-lingam parigrihya kaman jushan nibaddho guna-sangato 'sau Although present along with the struggling mind within the material body, the Soul is not endeavoring, because He is already endowed with transcendental enlightenment. Acting as my friend, He simply witnesses from His transcendental position. I in the form of 'ego', on the other hand, have embraced this mind, which is the mirror reflecting the image of the material world. Thus that 'I' have become engaged in enjoying objects of desire and am entangled due to contact with the modes of nature. --- Adi Jagadguru Sri Shankara Bhagavatpada said: There is no such thing as ignorance beyond the thinking mind. Thought is itself ignorance, the cause of the bondage of becoming. When thought is eliminated, everything else is eliminated. When thought increases everything else increases. 169 In deep sleep when the thinking mind has gone into abeyance there is nothing, by every one's experience, so man's Samsara is a mind creation, and has no real existence. 171 Cloud is gathered by the wind, and is driven away by it too. Bondage is imagined by the mind, and liberation is imagined by it too. 172 By dwelling with desire on the body and other senses the mind binds a man like an animal with a rope, and the same mind liberates him from the bond by creating simple distaste for the senses as if they were poison. 173 - Viveka Chudamani Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa said: " It is the mind that matters. If the mind is bound, you are bound; if the mind is free, you are free. The mind gets dyed in the colour you dye it with. It is just like a laundered white cloth. You can get it dyed in any colour-- red, blue or green. It gets the colour you dip it in. Just see, if you study a little of English, you start speaking English in spite of yourself : Foot-fut, it-mit. (All laugh.) And also putting on shoes (English boots), whistling and singing, all these actions. And if a pundit studies Sanskrit, he starts quoting slokas. If the mind is kept in bad company, it adopts the same style of conversation and thoughts. If you keep it in the company of a bhakta, meditation on the Lord and talk of Hari and so on would follow. Lord Krsna states in the Gopala-tapani Upanisad (Uttara 4): aputah puto bhavati yam mam smrtva avrati vrati bhavati yam mam smrtva niskamah sa-kamo bhavati yam mam smrtva asrotri srotri bhavati yam mam smrtva Translation: *By remembering Me, one who is impure becomes pure.* *By remembering Me, one who follows no vows becomes a strict follower of vows.* *By remembering Me, one who is desireless develops desires [to serve Me].* *By remembering Me, one who has studied no Vedic mantras becomes an expert knower of the Vedas.* -------------------------------- Now listen to Sri Ramana Maharshi: Firmly remaining in your true state is not at all a difficult task. Now you are oppressed by that sense of self identification with body. When this feeling is removed you will become that true Self. The feelings of yourself as separate entity comes only when That mind is exposed towards outside world. ***** When individuality is not there All ever expanding thoughts of mind will disappear. This Individuality and all actions of mind will live and Grow with each other. If one is not there, the other one will disappear. ******* The experience of true Self is possible for an eliminated mind. It means the mind which has turned inside towards the true Self. Then the mind will know its roots and it will transform itself and identify with that true Self. Disappearance of the sense of self is the real truth. ********** Each and every person and every spiritual book will explain in great detail about liberation. But no one will speak about the basic question. What is that fundamental question ? That liberation is for Whom??? Everyone wants liberation for oneself. When we question him about this, he replies that, that liberation is for him only. Is it for his physical body or for his mind or for his true self ?? He doesn't know about himself. If you want liberation, is it not necessary for you to Know about You ?? If you identify yourself with your physical body, That is liable to perish and you will get liberation naturally in due course. There is no need to put in any extra efforts for realizing it. If you are that Mind, what is that Mind?? That Mind is nothing but a cluster of thoughts Which are formed with mental impressions and resolutions. If you want liberation from that exercise of your will, You have to remove all thoughts and imaginations. Is it possible to remove each and every thought or imagination, And mental impressions even after taking millions of births ?? If you say that I am the Soul, Then have you ever felt and experienced that Soul? So learn about that Living thing. Know about your true Self, that is the liberation for You. All your illusionary imaginations will vanish once you experience that And forever you remain in that liberated State. --- Sri Ramana Maharshi. Jaya Sri Radhe! , " Thimmappa M.S. Guest guest
Enemies and friends, pride and possessions, abuses and insults, all these are created and comprehended by that Mind, with its limitations. Some one may be an enemy for you as per your analysis with the dealings between both of you. But, Is he Enemy to all in this world, He is not having any friends for Him?, Definitely he will have friends. Simlarly the person whom we consider as friend, is he friend for all? He is not having any enemies for Him ??, definitely he will have enemies. If someone is a friend or an enemy for us, then he should remain like that with everyone in the world. But it is not happening like that, so what we can conclude with this is, every one is having their own set of friends and enemies, all our friends and enemies are fabricated by that Mind. Similarly all our attachments with our people and friends with our pride and passions, our attachment to wealth and endless possessions, all these are conceived and nurtured by that Mind. If the limited low grade feeling which are based on that Mind are removed, the High grade unlimited universal supreme feeling of that true self will evolve for You. When all your feelings identifying your self with body are gone, The Divine feelings of true self will come to You. ---- Sri Ramana Maharshi > > mana eva manuSyANAM karaNaM bandha mokSayaH > Mind alone is the cause of bondage and liberation. > > cetaH khalvasya bandhAya muktaye cAtmano matam, > guNeSu saktaM bandhAya rataM vA puMsi muktaye > The stage in which the consciousness of the living being is attached > by the three modes of material nature is called conditional life or bondage. > But when that same consciousness is attached to the Supreme Person, > the living being is free in the state of liberation. > > Srimad Bhagavatam 11.23.42 >
