Guest guest
Sai Ram Everyone,Last Sunday, my husband & I were invited to attend a charitable dinner which included, in its program, the finals of a local pageant. After half an hour of listening to 'inept' speeches by male VIPs (elected public leaders) who were debating on who would drive the winner home and whose shoulders would comfort the 'losers', the show began with some singing and dancing and the finalists of the pageant came on stage parading in traditional costumes, casual wear, evening gowns and lastly, two-piece swim-suits! Most of these ladies were still in their late teens and were students in colleges and universities. The MC of the show had been proudly repeating that these ladies were not only beautiful but brainy as well! What a pity that brains were not enough and beauty had to be publicly 'displayed' for personal gains. "Beauty is a gift from God and every one is beautiful in their own way. Beauty is that warm bright light that shines from within us and is not the shell that we reside in. Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder and is only skin-deep." We left halfway through the show and I went home feeling quite disappointed with the evening. After watching the whole scenario, I realized that 'beauty pageants' have been in our society since time immemorial. Women were already selling themselves for fame and fortune since our grandmother's time. However, in those days which were 'depression times', we might excuse a woman for indulging in such activities as she had to earn a living to help support her family. Most of the young women who take part in such pageant these days come from middle to upper income families! It saddens me to think that although we are now living in a 'modern' era where education is compulsory in most countries, and more women are having opportunities to pursue higher studies and professional careers, many are still resorting to flaunting their beauty to take them places. This unfortunate aspiration is intensified by greater material needs, desires of unlimited wealth, pursuit of higher ranks in society, etc. etc. And what a price these women are willing to pay for the fulfillment of their ambitions! The world is failing if we, as parents, do not educate our children to return to the basics of humanity. It is our responsibility to bequeath upon them not the worldly wealth which we have accumulated, but high moral standards, integrity, dignity in one's self, righteous living, and most important of all, genuine unconditional love for all mankind. It is only through proper and dedicated upbringing will our children be virtuous and respectable leaders of tomorrow! Guest guest
hi sis adeline,i deeply appreciate what you have mentioned in your mail above..the current culture is so suprising.women do not seem to be valueing their feminity..the have started to exhibit their feminity like for and exhibition. Women naturally have their own dignity and morals and values.but now everything is waning. it is so disappointing to see these women. As you said parents should educate thier children on these human values.thanks for sharing your experience with us.... If wealth is lost, nothing is lost,If health is lost, someting is lost,But if character is lost evertyhing is lost everything is lost.- sai baba Regards Kokilwardhany N
