Fear emanates when we are perplexed regarding what will happen to us in the future. It is natural. Birds, animals and even small worms have fear in them. But animals and other creatures are driven by instinct when confronted with fear whereas man can examine the feeling of fear and he should train himself to rely upon his own self to tide over any crisis. But many people when confronted with fear choose wrong ways. They try to escape from a given situation. They have no courage to face a situation. They shrink within and become confused. Confidence alone can face any outcome. Hence we should cultivate Self confidence. It is not ego. It is confidence arising out of the Self which is natural for any being. When we do not rely upon our own Self, we seek help from others. Some turn to god when things become awry. Our mind has got a peculiar tendency. It is addicted to particular situations and persons. When such situations do not present them they are depressed. Some people rely madly on other people. When they move away, they get depressed. Swami has termed the above situations as `slavery'. We should never become slave to particular situations or people or rely upon them. In this world everything changes every moment. How can we anticipate any permanent feature in this life? Change is the order of the Universe. Hence do not rely madly on situations and persons. Sairam.
