The attractions of the senses pull us in all directions. Our energy is dissipated by the frequent diversions. Buddha has said, "Samyak Drushti" means we should see only holy or good things. Likewise he has prescribed nobility for all the sense organs. But how many follow truthfully, the directions of the enlightened one. Read Swami's discourses. In each of the discourse, the central theme will be about reaching or realising the Self or Atma. Swami narrates how the senses enslaves the mind and the mind inturn bypass the 'buddhi' and drag the body to its pranks. Thus menkind is doomed for ever in the syntillating pleasures of the illusory world. It is said by the ancient rishis that "Kamini and Kanchan" should be avoided at any cost. It is nothing but lust and avarice or greed. If you start hoarding and toil the entire day for the sole purpose, then you are no better than an animal. Even animals do not hoard except a few. If you deeply ponder what money can fetch you, it is nothing but illusions or "moha". You go to a shop and see new gadgets and without another thought you purchase it whether it is really useful or not. Shri Vivekananda has cautioned mankind not to be enchanted by "nootan vastu"(newer things) that come in enchanting package in different colours. Once you purchase it, are your desires fulfilled? No. It can never be satisfied. As you pour ghee in the fire, the mind will be hankering for more such stuff. Hence stop pouring ghee in the fire. Remove the desires one by one. Cultivate sacrifice. Share your resources with the have nots. By relinquishing new desires, you can save enough money to feed the poor, to cloth them, to educate them, to attend their health needs. If you are philonthropic enough you can even provide cheap housing for them. Give up and do not gather. Sairam.
