Mother Sita was the daughter of "Bumatha" or mother earth. Hence she was the embodiment of sahana and sacrifice. She bore all the troubles she faced on the earth. She faced banishment by Rama to the forest. During her stay in the ashram of maharishi Valmiki, she gave birth to the twins Lava and Kusa. They were born in the forest and brought up lovingly in the Ashram. Sage Valmiki taught them all 'Vidya". But none in the Ashram except Valmiki knew the identity of the mother and Lava and Kusa. Sita kept everything as a secret even to her children. Finally during the sojourn of "Ashwameda horse", Lava and Kusa seized the horse and kept it in their custody. News went to Lakshmana and Rama. Lakshmana pleaded with the children to hand over the horse since it was on a holy mission and not for play. Lava and Kusa refused stubbornly and fought valiantly with Lakshmana. He was shot unconscious by the children. Rama himself had to come to retreive the Aswamedha horse. He was aghast at the scene. But he was affected much by the charm of the children. He too told them not to obstruct the holy horse. At the ultimate moment of tussle between the father and sons, Sita came to know of the events and rushed to prevent any catastrope. She prevented her children from engaging in combat with their father. She revealed the identity to the children and Rama too felt at the sudden turn of events. When everybody were requesting for the union of Rama and Sita, mother Bhudevi came from the ground with a throne and took Sita with her and vanished from sight. Rama, unable to bear the separation, finally had to satisfy himself due to the presence of Lava and Kusa. Though Ramayana has a tragic end in the worldly view, it was the Divine task fulfilled with a theme. Sairam.
