SEARCH FOR TRUTH

Suppose a man

goes to the forest to get some of the pith that grows in the center of a tree

and returns with a burden of branches and leaves, thinking that he has secured

what he went after; would he not be foolish, if he is satisfied with the bark,

wood for the pith which he was after? But that is what many people are doing.

A person

seeks a path that will lead him a way from birth, old age, sickness and death

or from misery, sorrow, suffering and agony; and yet, he follows the path a

little way, notices some little advance, and immediately becomes proud and

conceited and domineering. He is like the man who sought pith and went away

satisfied with a burden of branches and leaves.

Another man

becoming satisfied with the progress he made by a little effort, relaxes his

effort and becomes proud and conceited; he is carrying away only a load of

branches instead of the pith he was seeking.

Still another

man finding that his mind is becoming calmer and his thoughts clearer, he, too,

relaxes his effort and becomes proud and conceited; he has a burden of the bark

instead of the pith he was looking for.

Then

again, another man becomes proud and conceited because he notices that he has

gained a measure of intuitive insight; he has a load of the woody fiber of the

tree instead of the pith. All of these seekers, who become easily satisfied by

their insufficient effort and become proud and over- bearing, relax their

efforts and easily fall into idleness. All these people will inevitably face

suffering again.

Those who

seek the true path to enlightenment must not expect any offer of respect,

honour or devotion. And further, they must not aim with a slight effort, at a

trifling advance in calmness or knowledge or insight.

First of all,

one should get clearly in mind the basic and essential nature of this world of

life and death.

3. SAI IN DREAMS

http://www.ettitudemedia.com

These are the dream sequences and messages as received by SaiBaNiSaji From our

beloved GURU LORD SAINATH OF SHIRDI. In Anticipation that this feature will

help in one's spiritual growth are hereby compiled from his personal Diary and

presented to SAIBANDHUS.

Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY.

JANUARY-1996

01-01-1996

I prayed Baba

to shower HIS blessings on the eve of entering New Year. Baba appeared in the

form of an unknown person and advised:

1. For the

sake of popularity, not to indulge in unnecessary acquaintances and invite law

and order related problems.

2. Never to

speak for others in felicitation functions, craving for self-recognition.

3. Never to

visit friend’s house during nights.

4. Observe

vegetarianism in food habits.

5. To respect

mother and serve her in the old age.

6. To reduce

too much attachment towards wife and children.

Public life

at times is like a heap of garbage.

03-01-1996

I prayed Baba

to indicate as to how death will take place for those following HIS dictates

and exercising faith in HIM.

Sai appeared

in the form of the Clerk responsible for issuing Birth and Death certificates

to the applicants and said-

1. Your wife

and children may drop you in the middle of the journey, but I shall stand by

you till the end.

2. When my

person dies, I shall be present at his last rights in some form or other.

3. Depending

upon the necessity, I shall offer rebirth to my devotees and most likely in the

house of a Saibandhus only.

Death comes

in a befitting manner to those who constantly think of me.

(By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao)

32. Significance of Meditation

Meditation is

a mind free from thoughts. Meditation is the heart of Yoga, the roof of

Sadhana, the master key to knowledge, the stream of love, the sacrificial rite

that earns the richness of the Guru’s grace. Meditation is also one form of the

Guru. Many will ask now to meditate and for how long. These are primary and

essential questions. It is said in the Gita – “The vision of Self is obtained

thru meditationâ€. In the Srimad Bhagavata it says – “In the meditation the

Sadhaka becomes the form of Godâ€.

Just as we

are occupied in mundane activities, our mind is immersed in love for God in

meditation. When the mind becomes empty of thoughts and becomes one with the

Self, we reach a very high state. So we must keep our mind empty. When we

wakeup after sleep, we experience few moments when our mind is free of

thoughts. We should make our mind peaceful and thought free, so that it becomes

no different from the Self. This progress is to come in meditation

5. SANATANA DHARMA & SHRI SHIRDI SAIBABA.

Delusion

arises from the duality of attraction and aversion, Arjuna; every creature is

deluded by these from birth. But those who have freed themselves from all wrong

doing are firmly established in worship of me. Their actions are pure, and they

are free from the delusion caused by the pairs of opposites.

-Bhagavad

Gita 7:27-28

Meditation is

superior to severe asceticism and the path of knowledge. It is also superior to

selfless service.

Tirupati

Laddu Now A Protected Brand

Source: http://www.hinduonnet.com/thehindu/holnus/004200806072241.htm

TIRUPATI,

INDIA, June 10, 2008:

The sacred laddu “prasadam,†popularly known as “Tirupati Laddu†at the famous

hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala near Tirupati, would soon get

patent rights under Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and

Protection) Act. Opportunistic merchants have been producing and selling a

similar product near the temple under the same name, bypassing the traditional

quality standards. The famous Tirupati laddu was introduced at the hill temple

some eight decades ago. Over 25 million laddus are prepared annually at India’s

richest hill temple which is being thronged by about 20 million devotees from

all over the country and abroad every year.

Meenakshi

Temple Sculptures

To Be Digitally Documented

Source:

http://www.hinduonnet.com/thehindu/holnus/004200806181324..html

MADURAI,

INDIA:

The famed Meenakshi temple has taken up a project to digitally document the

thousands of magnificent sculptures adorning the nine towers of the shrine.

Renovation of the various towers was underway now and the documentation would

also help in preserving the originality of the sculptures, temple officials

said. The digital pictures would give details about the position of the

sculpture and the dress, ornaments etc. The albums could be used for research

in future by students of history and architecture.

“Each

sculpture of the nine towers is being documented… that is a picture is taken

and a number given. Even the minute details are not left out so that the

renovation work does not affect the originality of the sculpture in anyway,â€

temple Executive Officer and Joint Commissioner B Raja said. The sculptures in

the five main towers of North, East, West and South and the “Rajagopuram†have

already been covered. The West and South towers together have 2,600 sculptures.

SAI

IN MY LIFE

I begin this

piece of writing with salutations to my Sadguru Shri Sainath Maharaj. I do not

know from where to begin this account of the coming of Shri Sainath in my life.

When I strain myself to remember my early childhood, I see myself as a

hyperactive boy of six or seven years living with my parents and many brothers

and sisters at The Leader Press Campus at Allahabad.

In the colony our immediate neighbours were Mr. Ram Kishore Malviya and one Rao

Saheb, an Andhra. Like my parents, Rao Saheb too had a number of children. His

eldest son was called Malli and we used to call Mrs. Rao as ‘Malli ki Amma’. I

remember seeing a small photo of a bearded ‘sadhu’ to whom Malli ki Amma used

to offer Aarti. I was quite familiar with the puja in my family of Rama, Krishna,

Shankar-Parvati and Hanuman, but the worship by this Andhra aunty appeared very

funny and ridiculous to me. Neither as a child, nor even as a man of forty did

I know that this saint was Shri Sai Baba.

In the year

1976, my wife went to her father’s house for a few days. While returning her

father gave her a copy of Shri Sai Satcharita by Hemadpant, translated

into English by N.V. Gunaji. He told her that if one completes the reading of

this book in a week, one’s problems are solved. In those days I was very much

hostile to my wife’s family and used to berate and belittle anything concerning

my in-laws. I made fun of the book and uttered some harsh words about Sai. It

was after seeing the book that I realized that Mallika Amma was worshiping none

else, but Sai Baba of Shirdi. Now I know for certain that Sai entered my life

when I first had the darshan of his photo at the house of Rao Saheb, though I

came to know his name only in the year 1976.

Instead of

writing an autobiographical account, I will confine myself to Sai in my life.

When I got married I was a Lecturer in English in a Govt. Post-Graduate College.

Though holding a gazetted post, I was always in financial difficulties and not

a single month passed without my asking someone or the other for a loan of some

petty amounts besides credit purchases from the shopkeepers. I was clever

enough to see that my wife should also start earning which in the long run

benefited me and my family very much. When I got married in 1962, my wife was a

very innocent girl of 19 years with the age old Hindu ‘sanskar’ of

‘Pati-Parmeshwar’ (Husband is God). My ego will not allow me to own before my

parents, siblings or in-laws that I was suffering due to lack of money. Such

was my false pride that once I gave Rs. 500 to my mother to please her. Little

did she know that this amount I had taken from a ‘Mahajan’ at Guna. On another

occasion, I borrowed Rs. 2000 from a money lender at Narsinghgarh and gave this

amount to my father, telling him that this amount was a small part of my

savings! Such ego, such false notion of pride I had then and in a much smaller

measure it continues to be part of my personality even today. Now In the year

1976, Sai entered my life in a bizarre manner and everything changed and

changed for the better for me.

7. SAI WITH CHILDREN:

http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/portraits/7.jpg

Smt. Madhu Gopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad.

Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use to play with children

and used to tell stories to them? I felt children visiting Saidarbar should be

entertained with good stories. Now I want to tell the stories what heard in my

child hood.

The

story of the crows and the serpent

Once upon a

time there lived a crow couple, who had built a nest on the top of a tree. But

unfortunately the tree was inhabited by a serpent at its bottom. So the serpent

used to crawl up the tree and eat all the eggs that the lady crow used to lay.

The crow couple were deeply grieved and when this happened time after time,

then they decided that the serpent was to be get rid of by a plan.

..

So the crow

then approached his friend the jackal and asked for a plan. The jackal then

told him to go and fetch a costly thing from the palace of the king and throw

the thing in the burrow of the snake. The crow went to palace, and stole a

necklace of the queen while she was bathing. The guards of the palace ran after

it. The crow then dropped the necklace in the burrow of the snake beneath the

tree.

..

The guards on

reaching the bottom of the tree, found the necklace guarded by the serpent.

Then they lynched the serpent and recovered the necklace. So the crow family

was now happy that their eggs were safe now.

Shri Sai Satcharitra

Chapter XXVIII

Sparrows Drawn To Shirdi

Trident and Pindi

Megha

worshipped Baba in two places; in the Dwarakamayi he worshipped Baba in person

and in the Wada, Baba's big picture, given by Nanasaheb Chandorkar. This he did

for 12 months. Then in order to appreciate his devotion and confirm his faith,

Baba gave him a vision. Early one morning when Megha was still lying down on

his bed with eyes closed but internally awake, he saw clearly Baba's Form. Baba

knowing him to be awake threw Akshata (rice-grains marked red with Kumkum) and

said, "Megha, draw a Trident" and disappeared. Hearing Baba's words,

he eagerly opened his eyes but did not see Baba, but saw only rice grains

spread here and there. He then went to Baba, told Him about the vision and

asked permission to draw Trident. Baba said - "Did you not hear My words

asking you to draw Trident? It was no vision but direct order and My words are

always with meaning and never hollow." Megha said - "I thought you

woke me up, but all the doors were closed, so I thought it was a vision".

Baba rejoined - "I require no door to enter. I have no form nor any

extension; I always live everywhere. I carry on, as a wire puller, all the actions

of the man who trusts Me merges in Me."

SSG: Sai Ram.

In one of the rare utterances, Sai indeed accepts His Oneness with all other

Gods and Goddesses, and thus the Universe. Sai Ram.

SSS: Megha

returned to the Wada, and drew a red Trident on the wall near Baba's picture.

Next day a Ramadasi Bhakta came from Poona,

saluted Baba and offered Him Pindi (an image of Shiva). At this time Megha also

turned up there. Baba said to him - "See, Shankar has come, protect (i.e.,

worship) Him now." Megha was surprised to see Pindi following Trident

immediately. Then also in the Wada, Kakasaheb Dixit was standing with a towel

on his head after having taken his bath, and was remembering Sai, when he saw a

Pindi before his mental vision. While he was wondering about this, Megha came

and showed him the Pindi presented to him by Baba. Dixit was happy to know that

the Pindi exactly tallied with the One he saw a few minutes before in his

vision. In a few days after the drawing of the Trident was complete, Baba

installed the Pindi near the big picture which Megha was worshipping. The

worship of Shiva was dear to Megha and by arranging the drawing of the Trident

and the installation of the Pindi, Baba confirmed his faith therein.

SSG: Sai Ram.

Kakasaheb Dixit was a great devotee of Baba and thus developed some special

powers like this. In another vision, he saw Vithal and later when photographs

of Vithal were brought by a seller, he was surprised to see that the picture

tallied with his vision. Similarly, here too his vision was accurate. Such

special powers should be used with love and devotion to one's Guru for the

welfare of others. Sai Ram.

SSS: After

continuous service of Baba for many years, doing regular worship and Arati

every noon

and evening, Megha passed away in 1912. Then Baba passed His hands over his

corpse and said - "This was a true devotee of Mine." Baba also

ordered that at His own expense the usual funeral dinner should be given to the

Brahmins, and this order was carried out by Kakasaheb Dixit.

SSG: Sai Ram.

Baba wept like a normal man and thus showed His special affection to His

devotee. Megha means a cloud and all of us have our true nature clouded by Maya

and can realise our true nature only through true devotion like Megha showed to

Baba. Megha, being a cloud also pours down the sweet water to quench the thirst

of people and animals, trees etc. Thus Megha too showers the grace of true

devotion on us Sai devotees through an example of a totally devoted life. Just

as the clouds are dispersed by Sun and wind, our ignorance is dispelled by

bhakti and the by the Jnana obtained by His grace. Sai Ram.

Extracts

from Sri Sai Satcharitra

These are

some of the extracts taken from Sai Satcharitra.

The life of a

Saint is neither logical nor dialectical. It shows us true and great path.

The simple

remembrances of my name as “Sai Sai†will do away with sins of speech &

hearings.

I am the

mother origin of all beings; nothing will harm him, who trusts his attention

towards me.

Baba himself

watered the soil for three years and grew a garden where stands present Samadhi

Mandir.

Baba always

said, “poverty is batter than kingship, for better than lordship. The Lord is

always brother of the poor.

Baba always

advocated daan (charity) & feeding the poor.

Baba always

used to say, “Allah Malik’ (God is the sole owner).

Baba said,

“body should neither be neglected nor fondled with and to be taken care to

attain God vision or self realization.â€

Baba said,

“whoever devoutly offers to me a leaf, flower, fruit or water of that pure

hearted man, I accept that pious offerings.

Baba always

said to all that Ram & Rahim are one and the same.

Baba said,

“Woman & wealth are two main obstacles in the way of our spiritual life.

It is on

account of “rinanubandh" (former relationship) that we have come to

gather, let us serve each other and be happy.

Saint’s sees

scandal monger removes the dirt (fault) of others by his tongue & in a way

he obliges the person and is to be thanked.

After

performing many deeds of merits you are born as a human. One to lead righteous

life with mind calm & composed.

Baba said,

“Objects of the sense enjoyment first to be offered to the Guru than attachment

for them will naturally vanishesâ€

Baba often

said, “his devotees be at any distance, he will be drawn to Shirdi like sparrow

with thread tied to its feet.â€

Baba freely

allowed worshiping of own deity.

Baba thought

by udi (ash) that our body composed of five elements, will fall down after all

enjoyment and reduce to ashes.

Guru Purnima

was the only festival which Baba asked devotees to celebrate.

Guru can be a

good guide but sadguru is an experience.

Baba approved

aarti by Madhav Adkar, ‘ Aarti Sai Baba, Saukhyadatar jiva charanarajatali…â€

sung at noon

at 12.00 in the Mandir.
