*Bhajan Competition for children* June 25, 2009

Jai Guru Datta!

*Bhajan Competition for children*

With the blessings of His Holiness Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji, We will

be organizing bhajan competition for children and youth aged 5 to 17 years. To

give a fair opportunity to all the devotees, participants will be divided into 4

groups based on the age of the registered participant.

- Group 1 for ages 5-6

- Group 2 for ages 7-8

- Group 3 for ages 9-13

- Group 4 for ages 13-17

- Instrumental: ages 5 - 17

Each contestant should sing or play one bhajan of their choice from Sri

Swamiji's compositions.

To register for the bhajan competition, please send an email to

baladatta_music with the participant's name, age, date of

birth, city & state.

Bhajan competition will conducted on:

- July 3rd - 4 PM - 7 PM at Hanuman Temple

- Tentative: July 5th - 6 PM - 7 PM at Frisco Embassy Suites

The bhajans must be sung or played in the same tune that Sri Swamiji has

rendered them. Kids may look at a script (bhajan text) while singing.

*Parameters for evaluation will be: *

1. Style of singing (how close to the original raga)

2. Scales and variations

3. Correctness of lyrics, clarity and pronunciation of words, melody

4. Whether the bhajan is sung from memory (by heart) or looking at the text

5. Singing by heart may have advantage especially when there could be tie.

6. It is very important to complete the bhajan in order to be considered for

points.

7. Pausing (each pausing will be counted) in the middle of singing / playing

will reduce the score/points appropriately.

The judges' decision will be final and no discussions will be entertained.

All the children are invited to ACTIVELY participate in this event and

display our love of Sri Swamiji's bhajans. Please propagate this message

within your groups and proactively encourage children to participate.

Good participation ensures a successful program, and the (Swamiji)

tradition, culture will pass on to our children automatically and

effortlessly!
