Dear Sai Devotees, We continue with Sumathi Satakam............. ---------------------- 63. O Sumati! By asking nicely, many may not drink milk - yet fear and force makes one

drink poison. Alas, being nice is so much worse than being forceful and feared! 64. O Sumati! Behavior beyond social norms – be it a king or a writer visiting a widow’s house – always gets people into trouble. 65. O Sumati! Be aware that a stupid fool does not enjoy poetic discourse showing wide range of emotions – just as a deaf can’t hear the high sounds of a conch. 66. O Sumati! Do not act cheap (such as untimely laughter or smile) in an assembly, in front of parents, in front of the king, in front of another man’s wife and in front of learned folk. 67. O Sumati! Water is the source of life; Mouth is the source of pleasant speech; Woman is the gem for mankind; and clothes add to beauty. 68. O Sumati! Never pick a fight with others; never worry over poverty once you inherit it; never badmouth others; and never fall in love with a woman. 69. O Sumati! Do not go empty-handed whenever you go to see the king, the wife, God, the Guru, and the children – always take something, that is the way of dharma. 70. O Sumati! A wife should play many roles: be a servant for doing chores, be an adviser for suggesting ideas & solutions for problems, and be a mother in caring for food. 71. O Sumati! A wise man is one who treats other women as sisters, does not desire for others’ wealth, does not feel ego when appreciated, and does not feel insulted when mistakes are pointed out. 72. O Sumati! Do not desire others’ riches, do not speak about unnecessary things, and do not hang around losers.
