Dear Sai Devotees, We continue with Sumathi Satakam............. ---------------------- 25. O Sumati! However wise and strong the husband is, it is unwise to allow his young wife to stay away from him at her maternal place for a long time…as unnecessary affairs pop up. The author provides a note of caution to all husbands. 26. O Sumati! Just because we make a dog seated on a golden throne and give it a position of authority, the dog would not have the knowledge and wisdom to act accordingly. The author cautions us about making sure to offer positions of responsibility to those that have the capability. 27. O Sumati! A frog that lost one or more of it’s legs, a snake that got sick, a crooked wife, and an old man who is poor will all have to suffer; that is the truth!

28. O Sumati! As soon as a lotus is taken away from the water, it withers away due to the rays of Sun. Likewise, friends that are no longer grounded in their natural habitats of thought turn into enemies. 29.

O Sumati! If a writer in the village believes another writer, it usually leads to trouble. Thus, one writer needs to look at the other writers always with a sense of suspicion and behave accordingly. The author must have had or learned about very bad experiences where one writer cheated other writers, and he made it a point to dedicate a poem for this aspect of behavior. 30. O Sumati! The food eaten while angry does not digest well, just as a cart without the grease on its axle doesn’t go smoothly…even if it is the Lord’s cart! 31. O Sumati! No one trusts a soft-spoken writer (karanam), an aged wild-elephant, a defanged snake, nor a defanged scorpion. This is because they are

all considered dangerous. The author appears to have had very bitter experiences with the village writers who document the property of people and assist in registration. He compares the writers to wild, dangerous animals. Hmm.. 32. O Sumati! Just as no one enjoys unripe fruits, one should look for alliance with same-aged brides or

grooms rather than much younger ones. -------------------- OM SAI RAM!
