O Sumati! Stay away from bad habits; stop desiring fame; avoid lending money; and do not expect affection from strangers. 35. O Sumati! Achieve and maintain moral standards by not desiring

things that belong to others, be it property or women. 36. O Sumati! A laugh without a reason, a lady that can not dance, a sweet-dish without the sweet in the middle, and a wedding without a musical band is a waste. 37. O Sumati! Do not

fight with your wife, do not accuse the wife of faults – because the goddess of wealth doesn’t stay in the house where the wife sheds tears. 38. O Sumati! During the days of happy friendship, one would either not see or choose to ignore the faults in the relationship. Once the friendship is strained, everything you see appears to be a problem or a fault. 39. O Sumati! Your acquaintance with an ill-charactered person gets you in trouble just as a bedbug found in a bed causes the bed to be thrown out in the Sun and cleaned with harsh hot water treatment. 40. O Sumati! Whether you are a learned pundit, or the emperor, or a poor beggar, you need to come up with the money if you want to enjoy material pleasures. 41. O Sumati! Just as the insects in sugarcane can spoil the sweetness of the cane, a son with bad habits can ruin the whole family. 42. O Sumati! Never expect faithfulness from a young beauty, nor friendship with snakes, nor sweetness from the leaves of neem tree, nor favors from kings. -------------------- OM SAI RAM!
