Upanishads

Dear Friends

My (adult) daughter is looking for an attractive, preferably illustrated,

English version of the Upanishads. She is taking a part-time interfaith course,

and has the Penguin translation, but would like something " better " . On

searching the internet websites for books, I have found so many versions,

translated at various times over many decades, that I need some advice! Do you

know of a suitable bookshop that might be able to help? Or do you have any

definite recommendations?

With thanks

Anne Grubb (West London)

>Dear Anne,

In response to your inquiry, please consider the translation by Swami

Nikhilananda. It was recommended by the director of the SRV (Sarada

Ramakrishna Vivekananda organization.) You can obtain more

information by writing them at the email on their site www.srv.org.

This edition should also be readily available through the Vedanta

Society bookstores. I've seen it here in Seattle and in Los Angeles.

Both of them have on-line bookstores. esther

I doubt if anybody has tried to illustrateany of the, though

there are some well known stories.

Om Namah Sivaya

Dear Anne,

You can order Upanishad books from Sri Ramakrishna

Math in india :

http://www.sriramakrishnamath.org/books/elist.asp?ProductType=MA08

You can also buy series of discourses in English by

Swami Ranganathananda. I recently bought his Bhagavad

Gita discourses, I found them to be excellent, he

first reads out in Sanskrit and then gives english

translation and explains how we could apply it in our

life.
