The Hindu trinity is represented by three Gods:

'Brahma - The creator

'Vishnu - The protector and

'Siva - The destroyer.

 

We use an odd number of wicks since the odd number is considered auspicious in Hinduism. 1 or 5 is usually used, though there are a couple of communities that use 2 wicks.

While lighting lamp we thus pray:

Deepa jyothi parabrahma

Deepa sarva tamopahaha Deepena saadhyate saram Sandhyaa deepo namostute

 

 

We prostrate to the dawn/dusk lamp; whose light is the Knowledge Principle (the Supreme Lord), which removes the darkness of ignorance and by which all can be achieved in life. Om Sai Ram nimano fakir
