Guest guest
The Hindu trinity is represented by three Gods: 'Brahma - The creator 'Vishnu - The protector and 'Siva - The destroyer. We use an odd number of wicks since the odd number is considered auspicious in Hinduism. 1 or 5 is usually used, though there are a couple of communities that use 2 wicks. While lighting lamp we thus pray: Deepa jyothi parabrahma Deepa sarva tamopahaha Deepena saadhyate saram Sandhyaa deepo namostute We prostrate to the dawn/dusk lamp; whose light is the Knowledge Principle (the Supreme Lord), which removes the darkness of ignorance and by which all can be achieved in life.
