Sri Swamiji is a master gardener. He knows what to

do, for whom, and when. Your wavering nature is an

indication of your " didir " (insta-) approach to

spirituality.

He cultivates the soil (your mind), plants the seed

(shakthi paatha), waters His plants regularly

(satsanga, bhajana, kirtana, concerts, ...), and trims

(/prunes) the trees appropriately to make sure they

don't grow into unruly things (giving you small

manageable doses of your own karma to teach you

lessons).

Devotees look for quick results ( " didir dosas "

" instant dosas " ) and

insta-herba-grow-veggie-matic-microwaveable-plants.

He is only interested in growing a garden full of fine

bonsai trees with strong roots, grown with much

attention and proper care. The best approach is to

stop looking for results. Focus instead on the

journey and pay attention to your practice (diligent

practice = abhyasa). If not cared for properly by a

consummate bonsai master, the same techniques applied

at the wrong times can easily kill the plant.

Therefore, the bonsai master must know what stage of

development that particular tree is in. He must then

apply his special understanding of the individual

tree's condition to shape its growth.

The real plant will take shape on His timescale - one

that is beyond the individual ego and desire.

If a bonsai tree takes so much care and effort to

grow; imagine how much more effort and care and

attention is required for a SatGuru to shape a

disciple? a 100 disciples? a 1000 disciples? a

1,000,000 disciples? etc. This kind of thing is FAR

beyond what we can even begin to imagine. Read more

about bonsai gardening and you begin to appreciate

what an amazing art and science it is; you also begin

to appreciate what an art and science it is to

properly guide a disciple in the long-long-long

journey of life. You will then ask for less, be more

patient, and listen more attentively.

Next time you get a chance to walk around the Bonsai

garden, see if one of them reminds you of yourself.

Jai Bonsai Guru!
