Subramaniam (Dr.LS) presented 'Sounds of India' programme on Monday evening at Nada Mantapa. In a span of about two hours, seven novel items were presented. Flutist A. Chandan Kumar of Mysore pleasantly rendered Swamiji's composition " Shankaram Shankaram " and provided an auspicious start. L. Ramesh of Bangalore presented a lively guitar recital to the percussions by the inimitable Dev. D. Srinivas presented a short and sweet veena recital with a composition of the Swamiji. Pt. Tejendar Mujumdar played Hindustani raga 'Desh' with tabla accompaniment by Akram Khan. Though the Sarod recital was short yet it had an electrifying effect reminding his legendary Guru Ali Akbar Khan's 'Bani'. Teenager Ambi Subramaniam captivated the listeners with his dexterous violin recital. Senior artiste Ustad Sultan Khan presented a Sarangi recital often lending his own vocal support. The piece de resistance of cultural programme was Rhythm Symphony conducted by Dr. LS. The orchestra consisted of 13 artistes, playing from the traditional instruments like Tavil to the western instruments like Guitar and Keyboard. Navaranga Mallika, a fusion music specially composed by LS for Swamiji's birthday was presented with perfect harmony and synchronization. It is said, music is the surest way of creating peace and bridging understanding among people. By arranging programmes like 'Sounds of India', the Swamiji has been promoting world peace and understanding. —K.R.Mohan
